My wife and I moved to this farm in the summer of 2023. We bought two domes in August 2023 and assembled them with the help of our friends and family. The weather conditions in Iceland have proven to be a challenge but we have been able to adapt the domes to survive winter. The first two domes were a success so after a year, we were able to finalise the purchase of the farm and added three more domes in September 2024, with more help from our wonderful friends and families. The biggest issue we've faced since moving here is putting up shower facilities for our guests. When this is written, it has almost been a year of permission applications and zoning meetings but there is finally a solution on the horizon and in October 2024 we will finally be able to offer showers! The onsite restaurant, The Barn Kitchen, also opened up in September 2024 and to help us run it, we hired two brilliant women. The menu is ever changing, ingredients are local and authentic, and we like keeping a chilled, inviting atmosphere. There's a piano and a microphone and sometimes our guests play for us, or we play for them. The bar is always stocked and we try to keep the prices as low as possible.

We love everything that's a bit different from the norm. We didn't want a regular guesthouse like all the others, or a regular restaurant serving the same tourist dishes of lamb and cod. All our domes are uniquely decorated, they all have the same basic amenities though.

This farm village, Þykkvibær, is the oldest one in Iceland. Known for producing over 70% of Iceland's potatoes and being the first to eat horse meat, this is well represented in our restaurant's menu.
