Gljásteinn was build in the year 2022 by me (Róbert) and my friend named Kristján. The house inside is made with a counter timber, the nature herself has made it with this beautiful texture that has all kinds of colors that makes them so unique. I got it from a recycle centers and it took me about 16 months to get all the quantity that I needed for the house, the interior dressing is all made with it that included the floor, 3 x doors inside of the house, walls and the ceiling cladding. The house has so magical nature all around it, and this place is really peaceful and quiet. You can see so many stars at night and the river is right outside of the windows so you can hear her. The northern lights tempts to come regulary and by the river the view to watch them is amazing! Be very welcome to Gljásteinn, to explore the peace, quiet and all the magic happening here. My name is Róbert and I am born in the year 1964. I am always getting new ideas about what I can do next to my houses and the land they are on. I love coming up with ideas that are rare , specially when I designed inside of the two houses I got. This place (Gljásteinn) has been in my family since 1978 when my grandparents bought this land and build the first house on it around 1980. The year 2013 I bought it all from my grandma, and the year 2017 I started to redesign the house inside and took 370 pieces of old euro pallets from recycle centers apart and cleaned them up and polished to put them on all of the interior dressing. I put up 8 lights in the house that are made out of herring barrels. When I had finished redesigning the first house, I wanted to build a new one in similar style sometime in the future. I already had a permission to build another house on the land, the plot of land is around 1.100 squeere meters. So then I started in the year 2021 in july to build the new one, and here we are today.

On this 1.100 square meters land a river named Grafará, she flows through the land. The river is only 12 meters from the house, so you can watch it outside the window from both rooms. You can also go fish in the river almost anytime of the year. The fishes that you find in the river are char and trout and you can try to catch a fish with angling. ITS FREE, no extra cost. There is so much beautiful nature all around the cottages. To make the most experience and to protect the nature I have made few walkways out of treebark trough a big part of the land, and also one of them is made out of lava flakes. I have put alot of work in the land to make the most of it, this land is so beautiful and you are always exploring something new on it when you take a walk around it. In the neighborhood we have so many beautiful and fun places to visit, like Geysir (30km), Gullfoss (38km), Kerið (25km), Þingvellir (30km) and many other popular places. Another popular place in the neighborhood is Fontana Spa, its located on Laugarvatn and it has a geothermal baths and its located right next to the lake Laugarvatn and people can go in that also, hot tubs and a heated swimming pool are also available. We have couple of good restaurants that are popular in the area, one of the most visited is Mika and it is located in Reykholt about 15-20 minutes from the property, also Friðheimar (30 km), a restaurant located in a greenhouse, and few others.
