Julley! A warm welcome to our home. Myself (Stanzin) Mountain guide since 2004 when i was 18 i run away from city school, supper excited to volunteer in the Army for a months. In (siachen) glacier (Saltoro kangri) 7350 m After return from siachen, i live in the village home and i see that trekkers knocking our door after dark looking for place to stay. They use to follow the lonely planet book only foreigners tourist visiting at the time till 2010. So i decided to open our home to tourist, i grow up out of ladakh the age of 7 and 5 year in Taiwan so i didn't know about much. There was no guest house in upper likir only monastery school accept. sometime i use to take them to my neighbour due to shortest of space at my home and make sure they agree, villager are use to be very shy person. Julley! Likir is known as (Lukhil) (meaning "water spirits") is a serene peaceful village use to be pottery village the technique still being practices, Historical Liker Monastery of Gelukpa tradition, Museum full of Tibetan antiques. People around are very friendly and helpful. Each house in the village is located a few hundred meters away from each other, space out by beautiful barley fields, streams and pathways. In summers you could see the villagers indulged in farm work. As you walk through the village, you will come across kids playing on streets, different kinds of birds, loads of partridge, sheep, cows, dzos, stupas and glittering glacial streams watering the fields. You could do an hour hike uphill into the mountains and visit a old meditation house built around a small natural spring or walk downhill to the main stream. You might spot wild animals.The village has got only two shop selling noodles ,chips , beverages, chocolates, soap and other basics. There are two restaurants open near the monastery during summers. julley!
