Justin and Jenny Green are experienced hoteliers, having gained international management experience in some of the best hotels in the world - Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, the Legian Bali and the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai. Prior to returning home to Ballyvolane, Justin was General Manager of Babington House in the UK and is an expert at planning and running all kinds of hospitality events. We are a multi-award winning Irish country house, founding member of the Hidden Ireland and have been welcoming guests from all over the world to our beautiful hidden corner of North Cork for more than thirty years. Now owned and run by the Green family, Ballyvolane was originally a classical Georgian home built in 1728 for the Lord Chief Justice of Ireland, Sir Richard Pyne, and then remodelled in Italianate style in the early 1870’s.

You might just want to kick back, relax and read a book while you’re at Ballyvolane and who could blame you – it’s the perfect place to do just that. But if you’re looking for something a little different either on-site or nearby, there are lots of options to keep you entertained! Onsite, we have glorious gardens to stroll around and woods to explore (Bring your dog!). We also have croquet (cheating essential) set up on the top lawn, badminton next to the glamping area, an all-weather tennis court and a soccer pitch in the walled-garden. Table tennis is available in the barn. There are also great jogging trails in and around Ballyvolane House. Nearby, why not try Canoeing down the magnificent River Blackwater, an activity that is always a highlight for our guests and is suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. Salmon fishing can also be arranged. If Hiking is your thing, there are some cracking woodland walks and mountain hiking trails in the Galtees, Knockmealdowns, Comeragh and Ballyhoura mountains. Day trips to quaint coastal towns such as Kinsale, Cobh, and Ballycotton are all within a 50-minute drive. Cork City is only 30 minutes away, where you can visit the famous English Market and Crawford Art Gallery, and in Midleton (20 minutes away) you will find the Jameson Whiskey Experience. Other sites nearby include the incredible Lismore Castle and Blarney Castle, both worth a visit. If golf is your thing, there are Championship golf courses including The Old Head Kinsale and Fota Island and many other excellent courses within an hour’s drive. There are a few excellent driven game shoots nearby and Ballyvolane House is the perfect base for shooting parties.
