Beautifully renovated with local products - the room was clean and very comfortable and the food was excellent. The Inn and the village store exude community pride. I am so glad we detoured off the C2C path just a bit to experience Bampton!

Annex bedrooms were formerly part of Bampton Village Shop and were added at the same time. These rooms will be fully refurbished in November 2023. Property info

'The Mardale Inn at St Patrick's Well' in Bampton, Cumbria, is owned and operated by Bampton Valley Community Pub, a Community Benefit Society comprising over 500 Shareholder Members who all came together in 2022 to 'Save a Pub for the Valley'. Our inn is located within the north-eastern boundary of the Lake District National Park which enables easy access to the M6 (10 mins from Shap Junction) and the West Coast Main Line (Penrith Railway Station is 20 mins away by taxi). There are many things to do in the area. The Mardale Inn was recently added to the 51st Edition of the Campaign for Real Ale's (CAMRA's) 'Good Beer Guide 2024' as testimony to the quality of real ales being looked after in the pub.

Neighborhood info

Bampton Valley is located in a quiet valley on the north eastern edge of the Lake District National Park. It is especially convenient for the M6 and the West Coast Main Line railway. For those who walk, Wainwright's Far Eastern fells are on our immediate doorstep as are some notable Outlying Fells like Knipe Scar. You can explore the original Mardale Valley (now submerged under Haweswater Reservoir), or visit Wild Haweswater or Wild Intrigue for some amazing wildlife adventures at RSPB Naddle. Lowther Castle & Gardens is one of the undiscovered gems of the Lake District at the northern end of our Valley. 'Withnail & I' fans can visit the original locations from the film in Bampton Valley. Within 20 minutes drive you may find yourself enjoying spectacular Ullswater, the Yorkshire Dales or the Eden Valley.
