This area is popular for walkers and is locally known as the 'Gateway to the Cheviots'. The town has shops and pubs, along with a youth hostel and campsites. Wooler is near to some larger historic towns such as Alnwick, and Berwick-upon-Tweed. The A697 links the town with Morpeth and Coldstream on the Scottish Border.
