The idea of turning our family house into a guest house came from our good memories when we would travel across France with our children enjoying the bed & breakfast hospitality of local people and when we would stay at magnificent renovated Maharadjas' palaces in India. Privileged owner of a mansion that is quite like a castle in town, we got the idea of restoring it from top to bottom at a great cost to welcome demanding guests in utmost comfort, who are curious to learn about the incredible history of maritime and cosmopolitan La Rochelle in the 18th century. What is more gratifying but to share one's passions with visiting friends that are reflected in our odd and eclectic collections, which make la Résidence des Indes a unique living museum, where it is enjoyable to spend one's days and nights!

Receive a traditional Indian welcome by Beroze and Michel, an Indo-French couple, in the recently renovated Weiss mansion. It is one of the 29 merchant mansions of the 18th century in La Rochelle registered under the official Additional Registry of Historical Monuments. Only a few minutes’ walk from the city centre, it offers the quiet environment of a private courtyard and garden. it’s unique 18th century staircase leads to wood-panelled halls on the first floor, which are furnished and decorated in the same style. The rear garden gate opens on to the city remparts and to lush green public parks leading to the beach. Leave your vehicle in our own near-by secured parking slot to discover the city on foot or on a bicycle on hire. Breakfast is served in the dining room, courtyard or garden depending on the weather. It includes an assortment of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fresh orange juice, homemade jams, various local honeys, fresh bread and croissants. If you have dietary restrictions or preferences, please inform us in advance to help us serve you better. After enjoying a tasty breakfast, take time to ask your hosts about old engravings on La Rochelle, the region or India, local modern paintings, posters of plays, Indian tribal masks, paintings and other exotic objects on display. A guided visit of this living museum will be offered to you on request, unless you prefer to discover it by yourself, while sipping a cup of tea on the first floor
