FAQs about hotels in Helsinki

Nordic Daughter of the Baltic

Scratch beneath the small-town surface of Helsinki and you will find a cosmopolitan metropolis buzzing with a lively attitude and plenty of excitement. The relatively short-lived summer offers the best chance to appreciate the outdoors and sit on one of the popular café terraces, or even hit the Hietaniemi Beach, all of which can be enjoyed during the 20 hours of daylight.

Strolling around the streets of Helsinki will reveal an Empire-style of architecture, comparable to St. Petersburg. The greatest example of this is the green-domed Lutheran Cathedral which rises proudly out of the centre of Senate Square. From here the main shopping street of Aleksanterinkatu, affectionately known as Aleksi, runs towards Mannerheimintie and contains the largest department store in Scandinavia, called Stockmann. The up-market boulevard of Esplanadi runs alongside and is packed with exclusive boutiques.

Lovers of Nordic design will be thrilled by the Design Museum and the Ateneum Art Museum. Nature is in abundance on the beautiful archipelago which lies along the coast. A must-see is the Baltic fortress of Suomenlinna, where you just might forget you’re in a big city.

Whether you head to a sauna or amusement park when you disembark from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport, with over 65 hotels, apartments and hostels, Booking.com has the perfect place for your Scandinavian stay.

I give Helsinki my highest rating : DON'T GO!? LIKE, EVER! You see, if you and a 1,000 others go, I'll be forced to wait in line for a restaurant table, taxi, etc. The people I encountered in Helsinki were all friendly, helpful, and polite. Now tell me, who wants to put up with all that?

    I love going to Helsinki.

I love going to Helsinki. My favorite spot to eat is in the Market, I love going for a nice Salmon soup. Also, one of the first things I do when I arrive to Helsinki in the morning is go to Robert's Coffee for a nice cup of joe and a chicken caesar bagel. Also, hitting fazer cafe for Geisha Latte is a must! I just love to walk around Helsinki and visit the different museums with new exhibitions and even visit the library to read some books. Getting around Helsinki is super easy, you can get by walking or just taking the tram. Hopefully next time I can go to other cities near by. Helsinki is a must!

Helsinki appears to be a very spread-out city.

Helsinki appears to be a very spread-out city. However, the public transport system is very efficient and their real-time mobile app makes it relatively easy to navigate to the main tourist destinations. Their day ticket even covers the short ferry crossing to Suomenlinna Island - be sure not to miss this in your itinerary! Would also highly recommend the Market Square and Market Hall as places to visit.

Lots of things (bigger and small) to see in the greater downtown area. Spend enough days exploring it and don't only visit the Tripadvisor things. Architecture, history, cafes, restaurants, castles, you name it.

Helsinki is a beautiful city and great for walking.

Helsinki is a beautiful city and great for walking. The port area is nice with cool indoor and outdoor markets. The Senate Square and Helsinki Cathedral were very impressive. The city has some great art museums, libraries, and and nice walkable bay area. The food was very good and not so expensive compared with some other big European cities. Weather was pleasant. It was easy access by ferry to an old Swedish fort and World Heritage Site, and also just a few hours ride to Tallinn, Estonia. Trams were inexpensive and fun to ride around the city.

I was in Helsinki in 2015 I was very young then, and I fell in love with it, now almost 10 years later, I can't say the same, especially after I watched so many other cities. It's still a very good Scandinavian city with a lot of what to show, but all the atmosphere and people have made this city less comfy and welcoming these years. I can't name it as safe and clean as it was before, plus the services with quality is not at the same level anymore. But I'd recommend you to see Finland by yourself anyway, to see what is really like for you.

The breakfast price is reasonable at the hotel. The location is good because we could easily access any important facilities from the location (Embassies, City Center, Airport..). I have stayed for a week, they did try to arrange the booking within a room so that we could have the most space as we could.
