Scratch beneath the small-town surface of Helsinki and you will find a cosmopolitan metropolis buzzing with a lively attitude and plenty of excitement. The relatively short-lived summer offers the best chance to appreciate the outdoors and sit on one of the popular café terraces, or even hit the Hietaniemi Beach, all of which can be enjoyed during the 20 hours of daylight.
Strolling around the streets of Helsinki will reveal an Empire-style of architecture, comparable to St. Petersburg. The greatest example of this is the green-domed Lutheran Cathedral which rises proudly out of the center of Senate Square.
From here the main shopping street of Aleksanterinkatu, affectionately known as Aleksi, runs towards Mannerheimintie and contains the largest department store in Scandanavia, called Stockmann. The up-market boulevard of Esplanadi runs alongside and is packed with exclusive boutiques.

Helsinki doesn't have a dedicated "Old Town" like many other Baltic States. What it does offer is a really interesting mix of old buildings (many accessible as "tourist" options) and absolutely stunning modern architectural masterpieces (also accessible). Central Library is an absolute MUST VISIT as is Kiasma for contemporary art. Several market buildings are also worth a visit (in particular Hakaniemi and Old Market Hall). Don't miss a visit to Sibelius Monument, and the City Cruise is worth 1.5 hours. The Helsinki Card is well worth the cost if you plan to do museums/cruise/tram rides/etc. Beware the main (white) Cathedral is not included, and frankly is not worth the entrance fee - it was the most underwhelming cathedral interior I have ever seen (Cologne, Krakow, Belgrade, Gdansk, Tromso, Bergen, Coventry, Stockholm, Salisbury, included !!!) - the Uspenski Cathedral is far more impressive! Stones is basic, a bit "Hip" but they do a very good moose burger!

The city itself is very nice, and you can spend 2–3 days visiting. Since we came for the race, we didn’t see much, but we did visit the top 5 attractions listed on TripAdvisor. We visited the Sea Fortress Suomenlinna, the Temppeliaukio Church (which I highly recommend; I’m not usually a churchgoer, nor am I religious, but this church really impressed me), Helsinki Cathedral, the Old Market Hall (where I also had a traditional dessert), and Uspenskin Cathedral, an Orthodox cathedral.

Loved everything about the city and vicinity.
Loved everything about the city and vicinity. Make sure to visit: (1) Market square; (2) Take a tour with a city planner ("Ataman" tours"); (3) If you grew up reading books about Moomin family of trolls - there is a great "Moomin" shop close to the Market Square; (4) take a boat to Island of Suomenlinna (note: if you have tram tickets for "AB" area, they'd work for the boat) and while there, make sure to visit their delightful Toy Museum and their little cafe; (5) Löyly sauna is the must and you do not have to wear speedos: all the guys were in normal swim trunks (you can rent them right there as well); (5) Visit Uutela forest (~ 40 minute ride on a train).
Just walk around and talk to the locals: everyone speaks perfect English and we found that it is not true that Finns hate small talk: everyone was warm and friendly and talked to us plenty.
The city centre and market place are within walking distance. For those who don't want to walk can take the tram which runs regularly close to the building. It's located in a relatively quiet neighbourhood and away from the hustle and bustle of city centre. There is a supermarket nearby too. All in all a cheap economical hostel for travellers on budget. The staff was cheery and helpful and available 24/7 which was helpful because we arrived almost at midnight.
Clean and cozy small studio close to Helsinki city center with easy transport access. All equipment is in the perfect condition and all small things at home (like cutlery or household chemicals) are just where you expect them to be:) Nice neighbors. Food market is just around the corner. Good place to live the real Finnish city life if you want to get something new instead of ordinary and usual hotel experience.
Beds were comfortable, the room exactly as described and depicted in the booking. The staff was very friendly. Copious breakfast, and the location is excellent for visiting the city.
Right next to the train station and shopping mall, within walking distance of the city center and harbour.
We used the nearby underground parking. Not cheap, but similar to other locations in Helsinki and very convenient.
the location is ok, easily accessible by public transport, airport, ferry terminal to Tallinn, and city center are easy to get to, just one tram line with stop 20 meters away from the hotel. the bed was amazing, very comfortable, super friendly and helpful staff, can’t complain about anything, very close to a good Thai and Poke restaurants. but Helsinki is not very exciting, not the hotel’s fault.
Pleasant surprise, I had to book a last minute room in Helsinki while a major event was made most of the hotels fully booked, the cheapest was citybox.
In a few minutes I was able to book, get into the venue and quickly checkin in the automated machines.
The room was super clean, amazing bed and linen. The venue is well organized, straightfoward utilities and clean premises.
The room was comfortable, although not the most comfortable bed I’ve had in hotels. Everything was clean and accessible, the breakfast was excellent, and had plenty of choices. The location was perfect; very easy access to the main train station as well as other public transport, and also central enough that much of the city center could be explored by foot from the hotel.
Excellent location, just 8 minutes with a cab to city center, the condo was very cosy and neat, just a block away for a tram halte although we did take a cab and ubber oftenly, with ubber to city center was just 8 euros and a cab we took the first day was just 14 euros, thus very cheap compare to other European cities. the friendliness of the people everywhere,
There was an up to 2h free parking on the side of the road in front of the hotel, and it was free all night, it saved us. The parkings are not cheap in Helsinki.
24h grocery shop downstairs.
Typical Finnish apartment, soundproof and well ventilated. The third bed is in a little tiny space separated by a sliding door.
Blackout curtains.
the location of the hotel is in the very heart of Helsinki, near Irish Pub, with no particular noise and problem to sleep, without that. And you are on a very short distance to everything in the city center, shopping molls, coffees, restaurants, sightseeing, etc. It is really the best location for the hotel cost-wise.
Firstly, the breakfast! It’s one of the best we’ve had at a hotel, simply superb! The bed was so comfortable, room was a good size, big screen tv, bathroom great, nice decor, location was walking distance to everything pretty much (10mins to city centre) and a short taxi to the Tallink Ferry.
With closed windows you can't hear a thing from the outside what is great. The Location is great for people who don't want to stay in the city center but is close enough to be there in few minutes. Other good things like souvenir shops or the rock church are close to the hotel.
Friendly, professional staff. A clean and conveniently located, city center hotel. Tram station and taxi ranks in front of the hotel. Convenience store and fast food close by. Walking distance to bus and train stations, shops, museum, etc.
The hotel is in a good location, close to the bus and metro station (two stops away from the city center). The breakfast was excellent, with many food options. The room was big enough for two persons and it was very clean.
Cool design, comfortable beds, cleanliness. The hotel is outside the city center, however, easily accessible by tram and in walking distance to the harbour (ferry to Tallinn). Good breakfast, friendly staff.
This is simply the best and most luxurious hotel in Finland.
Perfect location in the absolute city center of Helsinki.
Relatively good value for money due to low bookings and corona situation August 2021.
