FAQs about hotels in Cairo

Resting Place of Pharaohs

Born of an ancient civilisation, Cairo is a vast metropolis centred around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over it into Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.

The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artefacts, including finds from Tutankhamun’s tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

East is Islamic Cairo, home to 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk – remember to haggle. The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.

If you want to step out of cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.

Before heading to your Cairo accommodation, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Turkish coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.

Urban sprawl with poor transit opportunities make visitors at the mercy of a taxi mafia, tour operators add unnecessary expenses for excursions because it is difficult to get around. As a woman traveling alone I was subjected to near constant harassment, including comments about my body and indecent propositions. I am a 60 year old grandmother. I travel to 10 to 20 countries per year and out of the 16 countries I have visited this year Cairo has been the least comfortable as a woman traveling alone. Amazing ancient sites are artifacts but dishonest pricing and in your face hawker culture and aggressive coachmen can spoil the mood. You will return after a day’s activities drained. Plan accordingly, Hydrate.

Well worth a visit. The national museum was superb. Giza and the pyramids and Sphinx were great too. The traffic is very busy - allow a lot of time to get around. There are a lot of hawkers trying to sell stuff which can be quite annoying

It is an amazing city with beautiful architecture and has something for everyone , young and old . The modern and the ancient are in perfect balance in this city full of relics and treasures . Food is abundant and well priced and shopping is great! We had a great and generous guide and I really enjoyed my stay in Cairo but alas it was too short and i didn't get to experience other cities in Egypt . I will definitely return to complete my experience .

Important to pick the best hotel for your budget and to pay...

Important to pick the best hotel for your budget and to pay attention to it's location - in terms of what you want to do in Cairo. Steer clear of (overpriced) packages to tourist places - entirely unnecessary, everything can be booked and paid for on-line or at door (usually only with card, not cash). If time allows, visit some of the less prized tourist places, they are lovely and often underused so quiet. Local Uber service is brilliant and astonishingly cheap for a Giant capital city. Beware roaming data charges on your home sim; but easy to buy and load a local sim instead.

The hotel is located in the center of Tahrir. For those who love city life, the best. Everything is in the area, restaurants, shopping. The hotel is very clean, bed linen, towel is changed every day, cleaning is done. The cleanest hotel I have ever met in Egypt. The breakfast was crambled eggs , cheese, baked goods, vegetables. That was enough. The staff is very kind and helpful. Very good little hotel I can only recommend them.

Sara is an amazing and welcoming host. She is a thoughtful and caring host who ensured we had a best time in Cairo during our stay. She even went an extra mile to pick my partner from the airport at 3 am. We had a room with pyramids view and the sunset truly was a cherry on the cake. The highlight of the hotel was the breakfast which was tailor made egyptian style!
