InterContinental Cairo Semiramis, an IHG Hotel, hotel in Cairo

Overlooking the Nile River and just a 5-minute walk from the Egyptian Museum, the 5-star Intercontinental Cairo Semiramis features a heated outdoor pool and an on-site casino, spa and gym.

My recent stay at the InterContinental Semiramis Cairo was nothing short of exceptional From the moment I arrived, the friendly and professional staff made me feel welcome and valued. A special thanks goes to Nevine, the front desk manager. Not only was she incredibly friendly and kind, but she also went above and beyond to ensure my stay was perfect Thanks to Nevine, I was upgraded to a beautiful room with the most stunning view imaginable - the perfect birthday surprise Speaking of birthdays, the staff truly made my day even more special. Upon returning to my room, I was delighted to find a delicious birthday cake waiting for me. This thoughtful gesture truly went a long way and epitomized the exceptional service provided by the hotel. I would also like to extend my appreciation to Miss Reem on reception for her warm welcome and efficient service throughout my stay. The InterContinental Semiramis Cairo offers luxurious accommodations, breathtaking views, and a wide range of amenities. However, it's the exceptional staff, like Nevine and Reem, that truly elevates this hotel to a whole new level. They made my birthday stay unforgettable, and I cannot thank them enough.

FAQs about hotels in Cairo

Resting Place of Pharaohs

Born of an ancient civilization, Cairo is a vast metropolis centered around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.

The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including finds from Tutankhamen's tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

East is Islamic Cairo, home to the 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk (remember to haggle). The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.

If you need a break from cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.

Before heading to your Cairo accommodations, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.

A beautiful history and culture, but you really need a guide and driver to go anywhere, be it the crazy traffic or just understanding what's being said to you, you can't get around without the combination of both. Depending on your interests, you can spend about 3-4 days in the actual city center, a day trip to Alexandria being about a 3,5 hour drive two ways is also an option for another day here. If you want to really experience the local culture you need a good guide to take you under their wings, if they show you around you will generally be able to see and experience live in the city as it is. Going out into the street alone you will be harassed by locals nonstop, going out alone is not recommended. For those interested in a cruise on the Nile, you have the dinner cruise that's entirely for tourists, which is interesting but a total cash grab. I much more recommend you take a sailboat on the river, they are many times calmer and also not as scammy.

It is a bit of a messy place when it comes to transport. We loved downtown area and in general people is really nice. Best option is to get a good guide who can take you everywherew and takes away the hussle of being aware of everything.

Messy and hectic but if you find the right place to go, it is amazing to discover. Don't go to touristic place. Try to do research on places to visit online instead of going to the easiest touristy place, and you will feel less scammed and less people asking you for money.. Uber works so well here too not like in Hurghada.

The people that live there are so kind and welcoming.

The people that live there are so kind and welcoming. The city itself is so noisy and dirty. Most of the city looks like a war zone. The sales people can be completely rude and overwhelming. That being said, the historical side of things is unmatched in the world. The food, fruits and vegetables are amazing. After a week or so, you start to get the rhythm of the city and it sort of grows on you. Craziest drivers I've ever seen, but they somehow survive. It's a place you have to see at least once in your life.

Depends on where you are from, Cairo could be a whole another universe, as it was with me. After the innitial shock subsides, you start enjoying it. Quite dirty city, it smells bad most of the time. Driving in Cairo is like a survival but they somehow manage to drive "safe".

The hotel was very clean. The location was also very good. Also, the building was not like other Egyptian buildings, it was very new and beautiful. When we arrived at the hotel, both the person who welcomed us and the person at the reception when we checked out helped us in many matters. Also the manager did his best to help us. They also help you with transportation if you need help. I will probably recommend this place to my friends who want to come to Egypt.

Great hotel at a great value if you are looking for an airport stay. We booked the hotel for the night before we leave Egypt!! The hotel is situated minutes away from the airport terminals and it also offers an airport shuttle. As an airport hotel for 1-2 nights stay it definitely exceeds the expectations, as it has swimming pools, restaurants, shops, bar. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Our point of contact from the hotel was Mohamed for everything, even before we came to Egypt. He was really kind in organizing transportation and tours throughout Cairo. The breakfast was amazing, with the best view of the pyramids, and the rest of the staff always welcomed us with a smile. The rooms are pretty cool, with air conditioning and good bathrooms, and the swimming pool was perfect for relaxing with a view of the pyramids.

By far the best value for money of all the places we stayed in Egypt. It's clean! Which is not something you can just expect in Egypt outside of the more expensive hotels. The staff was super friendly and helpful and the room + bathroom good. The hostel can also organize trips at a very good price, which could be a big advantage if you're looking for some. Cheap bottles of water available at reception.

Additionally, the small touches like finding tea, coffee, and water in our room added to the overall welcoming atmosphere of the hotel .

Fantastic view from the top. The staff are very helpful, they organized all trips we wanted. A half day trip is 30 dollars + tip. Surprisingly good breakfast at the top. Airport shuttle for 20 dollars. The best if you pay Egyptian pound, and change your euro on the black market. 1 euro in the hotel 33 is EGP while on the black market (black market=any shop) 50 EGP.
