Welcome to our boutique hotel, Castillo Tambor Resort & Restaurant. We hope that this place can be your home away from home. We moved from Canada to Tambor with our two children and have fallen in love with Costa Rica and all it has to offer. Many recent updates have been made to the hotel since our NEW OWNERSHIP began in July 2022. The restaurant has a new chef and improved menu including Costa Rican dishes; all rooms have new mattresses, pillows, and soft linens. Along with our upgrading of facilities & services, we have made renovations in all rooms, and more excellent business practices have been implemented. Castillo Tambor Resort & Restaurant is a unique stone villa nestled in the jungle near the ocean, in the Tango Mar luxury district. All rooms are private, with a private bathroom/shower, TV and air conditioning. Relax by the pool with a cocktail after a day at the beach. Castillo Tambor is ideal for a holiday, weddings, birthday parties, family gatherings and private events. There are 9 guest rooms – 2 are located on the main floor; 3 guest rooms are in the stone tower (one room on each of 3 levels with stairs; no elevator). 4 additional guest rooms are in the back bungalow. They each have separate entrances, and lockable doors to separate them. One has a small kitchen. FREE WIFI to all rooms. Note that our cellular internet connections MAY be intermittent, as is common throughout rural Costa Rica. Belongings Safes: A safe is available in every room within the main building, but not in the 4 guest rooms of detached bungalow. We provide shuttle services from Liberia and San Jose Airports at competitive rates. Free pick-up and drop-off at Tambor Airport. CAR RENTAL RECOMMENDED. (Attractions, other restaurants, and groceries are available in this rural area, but not within walking distance.) Hotel can arrange for ATV rentals, and taxi. Distance perspectives: There is a restaurant & bar in this hotel, and also at Tango Mar Beachfront Hotel (1.2 mi/2 km). Other restaurants, bars, and a small grocery store in Tambor (3 mi/4.8 km). Larger grocery store in town of Cobano (7 mi/11 km). Beaches: Closest waterfront is at Tango Mar (0.6 mi/1 km). It is beautifully scenic for relaxing on the shore with a mix of sandy and rocky areas, but too rugged for swimming. Nearby Tambor Beach Puntarenas (5.5 mi/9 km) is sandy with gradual depth good for swimming, including children. Major beaches in popular tourist towns: Montezuma (8 mi/13 km), and Santa Teresa (16 mi/26 km).

There are lots of things to see and do. Car rental recommended. Adventure Tours & Equipment Rentals: The local tour company, “Pura Vida Expeditions CR” office is located at Tambor Tropical Beach Resort (3 mi/5 km from our hotel). This tour company provides shuttle service. They offer several types of tours including Tortuga Island tours with dolphin and whale watching, fishing, ziplining, bioluminescence, sunset tours at playa Los Vivos, ATV’s, horseback riding, Curu National Park and Playa Quesera with sand beach, kayaking, paddle boarding, etc. Also custom tours to La Fortuna, Arenal Volcano, Manuel Antonio, Monteverde, Gulfo de Papagayo. Nearest Golf: Tango Mar Beachfront Hotel Spa and Golf Resort (1.2 mi/2km); and Los Delfines Golf & Country Club (6 mi/10 km). Our neighbourhood is quiet and safe. The hotel rises on a beautiful park with local wildlife, monkeys, birds. You can wake up in the morning and take a walk in the park to see the howler monkeys and local wildlife. Or take a 1 km walk to the waterfront where the famous Arbolito rises, a tree standing on volcanic rock in the middle of the ocean. HELPFUL TIPS: Install WHATS APP before travelling: For texting, Costa Ricans use WHATS APP, rather than SMS Texting. Install WAZE app before travelling: Google Maps directions can be unreliable in Costa Rica. Travelers are advised to install WAZE application, beforehand. Costa Ricans use WAZE extensively. Our Nicoya Peninsula can be accessed 3 ways: Via flights into the Liberia airport, Tambor Airport, or Nosara Airport; Or, by road crossing via the Tempisque bridge; Or, by ferry crossing in the south over to Paquera or Playa Naranjo.
