CLIFFSIDE was established in 2018, offering to the public the experience staying in an architectural sculpture designer by Zanine Caldas, on the most stunning location of Rio de Janeiro. With only 5 suites we offer a very exclusive service and attend to any requests, focused in providing an unique and memorable experience.

Property info

Designed by the master of wood and architect Zanine Caldas, this special house can be considered an architectural sculpture, build on a cliff-side ocean front of Rio de Janeiro. Its style reflects a fusion of colonial with modernist architecture. PIONEER Built in 1968 using huge wooden beams reclaimed from the demolition of the Lloyd-Brasileiro warehouses at Rio de Janeiro harbor, solid demolition bricks, doors and railings, the house is an example of sustainability. All built over the rock tip of Joatinga, Zanine created horizontal planes by the declivous terrain, influenced by his visit to Japan. High ceilings and exposed roof tiles, a project that refers to the colonial Brazil as were the headquarters of the lords of the sugar cane, coffee and cocoa plantations. Designed for our tropical climate, the living room floor is lifted over the rocks, allowing air to circulate under the house, as well as the pool build over the rock, which keeps the temperature low even on the hottest days of summer. Inside, furniture specially designed for the house seem to come from the ground, completing a full integration with the architecture.
