Down a rough dirt track sit a beautifully handcrafted home, made from locally sourced sandstone and reclaimed wood. This house is located in 16 acres of private she-oak forest which overlooks beautiful Pelican Lagoon. The rough dirt track that provides access to the house creates a sense of remoteness despite being within 10 km of the town of American River. Large, open plan, split level home which spills out onto spacious terraces and private balcony’s all with superb views over the lagoon. The rooms are minimally furnished, with beautifully crafted handmade reclaimed wood furniture offset with bright ethnic fabrics and rugs sourced from around the world. The kitchen is large, fully equipped with a gas cooktop and oven, an Esse woodstove for winters, stainless steel drawers and appliances. There is a second fire place with glass front in the low sitting area that would appeal to those looking to curl up with a book while escaping the winter chill. Open the house up with large bifold doors (with pull across flyscreen) and let the outside in. Wake in the morning to the sound of the seabirds on the island below and to the sun's colourful rays reflected across the lagoon
Alex and Aara are both archaeologists with a passion for travel and adventure. They, with a huge amount of help and guidance from Aara's dad hand built the house over a period of three years!
This property provides the ideal location to explore the island and all that it has to offer. Kayak, snorkel or stand-up paddle board on the lagoon's marine reserve, situated directly in front of the property. Take a short drive to American River to feast on freshly caught oysters harvested directly from ocean, hike the local historical trails or catch fish from your boat or from the jetties. Pennington Bay and Island Beach, two of the loveliest beaches on the Island are located 10 and 15 minutes’ drive away respectively. Here you can surf, swim, fish, collect shells or soak up the sun with a good book. The house is only 20 minutes from the town of Penneshaw and all it has to offer, including the surrounding wineries, ocean safaris, lighthouses and fantastic places to eat.
