GLENBURN HOUSE is a B&B with three guest rooms offering a relaxed escape from city life. Located at Wisemans Creek west of the Blue Mountains, we are about half-way between Bathurst and Oberon, a short drive from Mayfield Gardens and an easy drive from Jenolan Caves and Kanangra Boyd National Park. GLENBURN HOUSE started life in 1883 as a school. With sympathetic additions it has since been converted to an appealing B&B enhanced by stylish furnishings and original paintings. The old school room is now a welcoming guest sitting room with open fire. Verandahs, terraces and a spacious garden provide many delightful spots to relax and enjoy the peace of the countryside. The three guest bedrooms, each with ensuite, are all private spaces separate from the main house. Wisemans Creek was the scene of gold, silver and copper mining during the 1870s to early 1900s with a population of several hundred people. Today it offers a rural lifestyle to its less than a dozen permanent residents. The countryside is picturesque and hilly with a mixture of grassy paddocks and eucalypt-forested slopes. At night don’t forget to check out the starry sky!
The evolution of Glenburn House from a tiny schoolhouse to its current form has been a challenging but rewarding process. I love to share the results with my guests and to know that they have enjoyed their stay. There's so much to do in the surrounding area you won't be bored but you can also just relax by the fire or in the garden and enjoy the peace of the countryside. In the meantime I'll just get on with my gardening.
If you like to visit inspiring gardens, Mayfield Gardens is a must during your stay at Glenburn House, being only a short drive from here. If you like bushwalking, the spectacular Kanangra Walls National Park is also within easy driving distance. You might also fit in a visit to Jenolan Caves where you might do one of the scheduled tours or walk along the first part of the renowned six-foot track which goes from Jenolan to Katoomba or simply drive through the spectacular Grand Arch to get the feel of the amazing scenery. If you like history, why not visit Bathurst the oldest inland colonial settlement in Australia, and do one of the heritage walks listed in the various brochures available from the visitor's information centre. In Bathurst, you will also find the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum that houses the amazing Somerville collection. You might like to drive around the renowned Bathurst 1000 race track, open to ordinary traffic unless it's an actual race day. In the right season there's mushrooming, and fishing, and also truffle hunting at Lowes Mount just a short drive away. For food and wine lovers the district offers many restaurants and wineries to tempt you.
