In the heart of the World Heritage Daintree, Fairy Falls is the perfect place to escape and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the oldest rainforest on earth. A private path leads to the national park next door and the enchanting Fairy Falls waterfall, its cascading waters permanently feeding a natural plunge pool, ideal for swimming and picnicking . Maybe you'll see an electric-blue Ulysses or even an elusive cassowary, or hear the sweet whispers of our resident sunbirds...
It is set in two acres of pristine rainforest and, as the northern boundary also adjoins several more acres of national parkland, “Fairy Falls” offers you the chance to forget the stresses and strains of everyday life and become fully immersed in the unique tropical wilderness of Far North Queensland.
THE WATERFALL AND SWIMMING HOLE
Making the most of your stay here means following the private path from the garden for 100 metres, taking care when you cross the golden stile halfway along, until you come to the cascading waterfall with its deep swimming hole, which is just a two-minute walk away. Fairy Falls – the waterfall – is on national parkland and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Daintree Rainforest, which has been in continuous existence for over 135 million years. Using the picnic set provided, pack a lunch and while away a few hours waterside, surrounded by the birds and butterflies of this timeless place; take a dip, lie back in the crystal clear waters and gaze into the sky above, framed by the canopy of the world’s oldest jungle – for a while, let yourself become part of this truly unforgettable slice of paradise.
Please note that swimming is at your own risk and due to its setting, "Fairy Falls" is unsuitable for children under 12. The path can be steep and slippery in places so please take care.
DAINTREE RIVER FERRY
Just purchase a one-way ferry ticket on arrival at the Daintree Ferry, a complimentary return ticket will be waiting for you at Fairy Falls.
A PEACEFUL AND TRANQUIL ENVIRONMENT
The Daintree is home to diverse wildlife, from colourful birds, stripey possums, tree kangaroos and the elusive cassowary. As you will be stewards of this remarkable ecosystem, we need you to cherish their habitat, keep noise, conversations and music to a considerate volume.
The Daintree community lives in harmony with the rainforest. If you are looking for party town then Fairy Falls is not for you.
WELCOMING YOU TO “FAIRY FALLS”
A welcome tray of cheese and crackers and a complimentary bottle of wine will be waiting for you at Fairy Falls. And, to get you started, there is also coffee, Daintree tea and, in the fridge, long-life milk and a cool jug of filtered Daintree water.
The house boasts a bohemian décor with an eclectic mix of Near East, Far East and Far North influences, including beautiful Balinese and Indian contemporary and antique furniture, and artwork showcasing a few of the fauna and flora that make this corner of the world so special.
We are fully off-grid. We have solar power, pure Daintree rainwater and LPG gas for hot water and cooking and a septic tank.
An automated-generator provides backup power should the solar system need topping up, but as local restrictions mean it can only kick in between 7am and 10pm, we ask guests to use electricity carefully, avoiding use of hair dryers, straightening irons and the like. Depending on conditions, please also use water wisely, and only flush organic matter down the loos!
In short, “Fairy Falls” may not be for those who prefer standard, hermetically-sealed 5-star “corporate” accommodation. On the other hand, if you’re wanting to escape to your own private rainforest hideaway that offers something completely different, and if you’re up for immersing yourself in this timeless wilderness and living amongst the wildlife – such as the odd gecko in the living room (welcome to the tropics!) – then this is definitely the place for you.
The main (indoor) kitchen is open to the living room and has a rustic appeal with beautifully crafted cherry penda benchtops and antique Indian wall cupboards, a free-standing 900mm LPG gas oven with five burners, a large fridge-freezer, ample cupboard space and a double Belfast sink.
LAUNDRY FACILITIES IN MOSSMAN
Please note that although the standard Airbnb headings say there is a laundry, there is in fact no laundry at Fairy Falls. A clothes-airer is provided for drying clothes and swimwear but if you need to use a washing machine, there is a laundrette in Mossman.
ENTERTAINING AREAS
Outdoors there is the oversize covered entertaining area with its own rustic kitchen of natural-edge cherry penda benchtops, a sink, barbeque, and a bar fridge to keep your wine and beer at the perfect temperature for the tropics (not to mention close to hand!). The deck also has an outdoor dining area with a natural-edge mango dining table and benches for sharing special meals, as well as a day bed, sitting area, and ceiling fans to keep you cool on hot days. Just kick back with a glass of wine and the one you love, watch the wildlife or simply stargaze as the Milky Way meanders overhead.
Beneath the house is a space we call "The Hide", consisting of two hammocks and a hammock chair with a camouflage netting backdrop, from where you can observe the garden and the rainforest beyond.
THE GARDEN
Depending on the season, the garden has many tropical fruit trees including soursops, durians, love apples, miracle fruit, ghost chillies, kaffir lime leaves and Thai coriander, so help yourself to the perfect ingredients for cooking up a mouth-watering dining experience of your own creation.
BROADBAND AND MOBILES
NBN satellite broadband fast enough to stream movies - 50 inch smart TV (to access entertainment platforms, please use your own membership details). However, we are in the jungle so I can't guarantee the connection. You are likely to get buffering and slow speeds occasionally.
