The opera was a highlight of our visit.
The opera was a highlight of our visit. Vienna is always a beautiful city at any time of the year. If you enjoy wonderful architecture, art galleries, museums and coffee shops it's a place you will want to visit. We would also recommend the chamber music concerts at the very decorative church in Annagasse.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Vienna, and as a student, I took full advantage of the incredible museum scene—thank you, student discounts! My recommendations are Albertina and the Belvedere Palace.
What truly stood out during my visit was the way the city and its people responded to the recent cancellation of Taylor Swift's concert. Instead of dwelling on disappointment, the city quickly organized alternative events to bring joy to the fans. Local venues hosted special “Taylor Swift nights” featuring live music, karaoke, and themed activities. This sense of community and resilience really showcased the spirit of Vienna—transforming a setback into an opportunity for connection and celebration.
Will visit again some day during the Christmas season.

However much time you think you'll need, you'd probably do well with more. Museums are wonderful - we spent hours at the Albertina. Just the architecture of the city is amazing, and it'd be a very easy thing to just wander around looking up and feel that this is just the thing you want.
We wanted to try sachertorte (of course!), but the lineup at the original place was so very long that we wandered a bit and found entirely by accident the most wonderful cafe - the bottom level is a shop that sells the most divine chocolates, and the 2nd level is a delightful cafe with incredible service. Their sachertorte is excellent, and the walnut torte is spectacular. Also the best hot chocolate I've had in my entire life. You won't be sorry to spend some time at the Gerstner Cafe, on Karntner Strasse.
