Gizo
Located 3 minutes’ walk from the main shopping precinct and market, Rekona Lodge offers guests a communal kitchen and a tour desk. Rekona Lodge Gizo is 5 minutes’ drive from Gizo Hospital. My partner and I just had a fantastic few days in Gizo staying here. We had just been to a remote resort so we decided to stay in town and I’m pleased we did. Mary (owner) had organised a boat to pick us up at the airport (on a different island) and then she picked us up from the boat dock in Gizo. The lodge itself was perfect for a great stay, the room was spacious and so comfortable, we had a balcony with a fantastic view, the air conditioning worked really well, the fridge in the room a great added touch and the staff were so friendly and attentive (and great with laundry). In the middle of town but just set back enough to be quiet (or maybe the double glazed windows helped)! No more than a 5 min walk from the furthest places, and shops were all around, the bank and ATM just 2 minute walk and a bakery and a cafe next to that. There isn’t a restaurant on site but we were told where was the best cafe for coffee and daytime meals, and also best place to eat dinner. The local cafes close between 3-4pm so be aware to eat early unless you want to spend double at another hotel for dinner. I believe there is a kitchen for use here but we didn’t bother cooking. I am a diver and managed to get 2 days amazing diving with Gizo dive just down the road from this Lodge. My partner likes to walk and while I was diving Ivan (owner married to Mary) took him on a tour of the Island and he said that Ivan was so informative (current and historically) and he really enjoyed the tour. The gardens are beautifully kept, the staff do a great job with laundry and Ivan even organised our onward journey, they were happy to help with everything. We extended our stay because we were so comfortable. We would 100% stay here again. Thanks to everyone at Rekona Lodge for a great stay! All in all I don’t understand why the rating isnt higher when it is such a great place to stay. This is the Solomon Islands not Fiji!!!
