The cottage was super cozy and had all we need. Klaus was warm and welcoming and we loved all the animals roaming around. Especially the pigs!! Also don’t forget to try the oranges. Absolutely delish! Warmest recommendation to stay at this place.

Outdoor areas were well presented and enjoyed hanging around the pool. Bathrooms clean, kitchen plenty of equipment, rooms tidy and comfy. Each had its own desk space which was useful. Under new management from mid 2022 and just 80 metres from Paihia Beach, Peppertree Lodge & Backpackers features a barbecue area with outdoor seating. En-suite washroom was handy and a full kitchen downstairs was nice to prepare breakfasts in the morning. A very friendly staff dog to pet at the reception office and curious cat visitor was fun to relax with outside by the covered deck.

Centabay Lodge offers budget accommodation right in the centre of Paihia. Choose from a bed in one of the spacious dormitory rooms or stay in a private room to suit your budget. Centabay was my favourite hostel that I stayed at in New Zealand!!! I loved the vibrant atmosphere, the lovely backpacker-staff and the wonderful manager who was always a joy to chat with. The prices are incredibly reasonable for a place in the middle of Paihia, and you can tell the manager isn't in it for the profit - she genuinely wants to help travellers have the best experience possible. The hot tub worked well and was always great to use. The hammocks and tropical garden are another bonus. I could go on and on!
