We had a private room in a bit older building of the hostel, but it was a large room, with a good, big bed and a perfect shower (even a rain shower!). Wifi worked very well. There are a couple of common rooms which you can also use, even if you have booked a private room. That's very nice in the evening. It's nice that the breakfast includes fresh fruit. Regarding the price, the stay is absolutely good value for money. But what really makes Negrita Hostel the absolutely perfect stay is owner Camillo: he is very friendly, attentive and gave us a lot of information: restaurants in the area, but also in Punta del Este and even on the way to Montevideo. Also good information about museums, sights, things to do,... I would absolutely stay in Negrita Hostel again if I would travel to the region again.

Beautiful property, but note that the staff hardly speak english and it's much more of a locals hostel. It seems there was a large group of people that are staying there for an extended amount of time, perhaps a work/stay situation. Not the kind of hostel that has activities to meet other travellers etc. It's bit tucked away from anything else, about a 20min walk to grocery stores, under 30min to the beach. Facilities were clean and breakfast was okay, but nothing fancy. 3 pieces of bread with jam, an apple, juice and coffee - would not say it's "fabulous".

The staff were amazing, super friendly and generous with recommendations and time for a casual chat. The hostel was quiet as I was there outside of the main season but it felt really cosy because of that; I was also upgraded to a better room which was very kind. The location was fantastic, right next to a supermarket, beach, restaurants, cafes and shops. It also felt really safe. La Barra is a really cute area, I'd love to come back again and stay at Negrita. Thanks so much!
If u travel with a budget its definitely a good option but dont expect too much. The hostel is good located and extremely cheap for Uruguay. The mattress are hard and old, the kitchen well equipped. The shower has hot water. Staff is super helpful and friendly.
I’m traveling for 6 months and this was by far the best hostel I stayed in. The staff became like friends and the atmosphere is amazing. If you image a surfculture, this has the surfculture. The ultimate place to come to rest, close to a perfect beach and the nice streets of la barra. I would recommend this hostel all day to people. Great location! Right across the street from a beautiful beach, easy walking distance to everything in town, and very, very safe! Pools and fitness center were excellent, and massage was fantastic! Excellent breakfast and meal services with abundant variety. Enjoyed variety of news services BBC, CNN, FOX, and Bloomberg. Front desk staff were outstanding in helping with reservations, transportation, and tours. Well done!
