Budget travelers know there's no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: Save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a little more.
My girlfriend and I loved this eco-farm studio! We felt so relaxed and a part of nature, yet safe and secure from the elements. Even though we got in late, it was easy to check-in on our own and we loved the extra touches, including vegetables, eggs, and water from the farm. We made a great breakfast and had everything we needed.
The vibe you find at Open Gate Hostel is hard to explain and find somewhere else. Staying here was one of the best decisions I have made throughout my two weeks in Hawaii. Staff is truly super (helpful, friendly, welcoming, helpful) and the people you meet there are just amazing.
My private room was large, comfortable, and clean. Bathrooms and kitchen were very clean, too.
Location is incredible.
The house is just like the photos. It actually has 2 bedrooms not just one as listed. At night when the temperature drops, inside the house remains nice and cozy. Also, when you shut the windows, the sound of the coqui frogs lessen a lot! There are neighbors so we felt safe, and not isolated. The house was clean, cozy, well stocked and very well lit at night. Really happy with the motion lighting at night!!
I really loved this hostel. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to make sure the guests had a nice experience. The hostel itself is a very unique structure built on lava fields. Definitely one of the most interesting hostels I’ve ever stayed at.
I loved the price! Accomodation on big island is really expensive 🙈 however, even it was cheap this room was spacious, clean, and all we needed to rest. It's located next to some bar, so we heard music coming out from the street, but once we closed the windows it wasn't an issue at all. The neighbourhood is not the safast one, however, on the property have had 3 locks on the way getting into the room that made us feel secure. .
One of the coolest hostels I've ever been at. It was fascinating to be staying right on top of a lava field. The owners were extremely friendly, and the beach they suggested we go to had dolphins we were able to swim with. Our room was very clean, as were the shared spaces.
