First, the hostess was super lovely and tried to be as helpful as possible. She also cooked a very nice dinner for us, so she gets 3 stars for her friendliness and service. The lower rate is due to our contacts/issue with the owner.
Location is approx 15 min from the airport and therefore practical if you have a late arrival or early departure.

Kilowood Hostel is truly an amazing place to stay in Moshi. Situated just outside the town center, it offers a peaceful location on the road leading up to Mount Kilimanjaro. The facilities and grounds are fantastic, but what really makes this hostel stand out is its owner, Welmi, and her dedication to the local community. Kilowood Hostel combines travel and backpacking with opportunities for volunteering and supporting the region. Ask Welmi about the NGOs they partner with and their volunteer program. This is the perfect place for travelers who want to do more than just sightsee—they can also make a difference and gain deep cultural insights through their work. The combination of volunteering and backpacking is innovative and a great approach! I had the honor of getting a glimpse into the daily work of an NGO that helps children in need. It was an incredibly humbling experience, and one of the highlights of my East Africa trip.

The property was very central, rooms were clean and secure, and all of the staff were absolutely fantastic. It’s priced very reasonably and Erasto was able to arrange several excursions (coffee tour, safaris, other tours, and transportation) for me, also at very good prices. As a solo female traveler I found it a welcoming and safe place to get my bearings and explore Tanzania from. It also has a great view of Kilimanjaro from the rooftop bar.

The rooms are simple but adequate, the outdoor bathroom is a nice touch! Breakfast is fresh and tasty.
Friendly owners, easy to arrange trips. I would absolutely recommend going to the hot spring and waterfall/coffee tour by bajaji, the drives are amazing and this way these are affordable day trips! Just ask to arrange a driver there :)

The owner and the staff were very kind and welcoming. It is a very safe place. I loved the delicious breakfast served and the pool area to cool off.
