The grounds and landscaped garden are a peaceful oasis near a busy intersection and runway in front of the hostel. Open-air dining room and lounge are delightful in the afternoons and evenings, but cold in the mornings since they open all the windows and the transition area is open (January). Shoe policy is a nuisance with cold concrete flooring, provide sandals if you insist on maintaining a shoeless policy. Breakfast was more than generous considering it was free; coffee/tea, bread, bananas, salad and boiled eggs and sundries. The bathrooms seem inadequate for the amount of guests, but hot water for showers kept the chill out. Overall, great location, short walk to the city center, handsome hill tribe and lanna decor, space to meet &greet or quiet contemplation, love the ficus religiosa.

The location is very central. Many attractions are within walking distance. The hostel feels just like home. The staff was amazing. It's a very social hostel. I had intended to stay for 2 days but ended up staying for a week. One of the best hostel experiences that I have had recently.

Chean-Chean House is a lovely small guest house with only 4 rooms and a large common balcony. My room was directly connected to the balcony, which gave us a dining table outside. The room was tastefully decorated and contained a small fridge as well as a kettle. The bed was very comfortable, the en suite bathroom was quite nice with a nice hot shower. Location was in a quiet residential street opposite a Buddhist Temple. The lady that ran the place was very nice, and quite cheerful.

This is hands down the best hostel
I’ve stayed at! It was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The owner is the sweetest man who has so much information to share and is a very genuine host. There is an awesome free breakfast everyday and a nice common area to hang out at. 11/10 in every way!

Excellent hostel - very nicely thought out amenities and logistics. One of the few I’ve seen with signs asking not to slam doors, so it’s nice and quiet. The lady who works there baked cookies/brownies, which was extra nice :) location is perfect for Chiang Rai - 2 min from bus station/market.

If you are homesick and looking for your little community away from home, Social Garden is the place to be. The owners as well as the volunteers are extremely friendly, they will welcome you with open arms and gladly talk to you for hours, help with any questions you have about Chiang Rai and beyond. You can immediately feel that passion and love is at the heart of what they built.
Location is convenient without being in the main city center area: running track in close proximity, 7eleven, other restaurants as well. In my opinion, it’s better to be slightly further since it can be very crowded due to the several markets that are around the clock tower.
In terms of facilities, there is a bathroom inside the guest house and another one outside. 3 showers, 2 sinks, a kitchen and open communal area outside.
They host themed nights, during my stay I participated in Beer Pong, Saturday Night market and Skyjo card game. It’s very cool since of course you are free to join whenever and also only if you are in the mood for it!
I stayed in the 6-bed female dorm. Beds are comfortable, you get 2 pillows which are quite thick but fluffy at the same time, a bedside lamp and plug. Temperature in the room is regulated by the staff and it was quite good, not too cold, not too warm!
I was there for 3 nights but could easily extend for a few more nights since there are many things to do around Chiang Rai which are mostly excursions.
Overall, very nice homey and cozy stay in Chiang Rai, recommended for those who are more laidback, open-minded and chill.

Walked from the bus station. Lots of food within 300m. Clean enough. Mini-fridge, hot water, and AC if you want that. Staff were polite. Speak some English. Only stayed one night to catch a plane. Price was OK and safe neighborhood. Maybe good for budget traveler who doesn't want to be in a hostel.

The best hostel I stayed in during my trip. the design is beautiful, the place is extremely clean, it’s less than a minute from the bus station. The owner and staff were absolutely lovely, trusting and took great care of me. I loved that there are laundry facilities and a cute kitchen and hang out area. I always felt my stuff was safe. Note that there are strict house rules. The hostel also offered some very comprehensive tours of Chiang Mai’s attractions
Great location near bus station and walking street. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Hostel very laidback and has a reggae bar feel to it. No beer sold here but 7/11 round corner. Weed available too. Would recommend. Stopped in dormitory for 3 nights.
great location- so central! staff are friendly, we had a private twin room. most comfortable bed we’ve had in Thailand so far. relatively clean- bathrooms could have a good going over but not bad compared to some hostels at all. Cheapest hostel we’ve had so far :)
