Budget travelers know there's no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: Save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a little more.
I stayed in the hostel. Bram (owner) came right out to greet me and was very hospitable and helpful. I loved being able to explore the village and get ideas from Bram on others places to ride to. He gave me excellent recommendation for routes. I liked the tranquility of the place, and that I could make my own meals and still be within walking distance to good local restaurants.
I felt really welcome. The host is very friendly and prepares a delicious breakfast and dinner. It's a great location to discover Breb and the beautiful nature of Maramures.
Host family was very welcoming despite not speaking English (we managed with Google translate) and the meals were delicious amd cheap (breakfast 30 lei and dinner 70 lei pp). We were the only guests so we could have our pick of the rooms, which were clean and decorated with traditional handicrafts. Good wifi. Would recommend driving via Casa lu Docia to minimise the rocky areas but we did manage to drive out the other way in a regular car.
What an incredible place this is. Its very clean, spacious and has amazing nature around the hostel . The host is fantastic who is happy to help you on what to do in the area and is very nice. The place has some comfortable outdoor seating and pets to keep you company. I absolutely loved this place, by far the best hostel I have ever stayed in so far.
Great location, keeping the traditional look while having modern facilities.
Homemade breakfast every morning was very tasty and diverse.
Also, very convenient for accessing the key tourist attractions in Maramures.
The hosts were very nice and more than willing to help with any requests we had.
The area is absolutely gorgeous, the whole village is like a living open air museum. The hostel itself is very pretty and super cozy. The host family are amazing people, and just next door there's an inexpensive restaurant with locally sourced and very tasty food. I came for a couple of nights and stayed almost two weeks.
The Babou Maramures was my favourite hostel during my entire trip. The hosts are super friendly. The hostel itself is cozy and relaxing with everything you need. The beautiful garden is the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. I felt at home and it was my happy place in Romania. I'll visit again. For sure. 💚
