Looking for a hostel?
Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.

So comfy, beautifully decorated, clean and warm. One of the best hostels I have stayed in. They provide a towel, and free cereal and spreads (jam, marmite, etc.) and there were so many games, books, a TV and a massage chair. Granted, it is very quiet, so you won't be encountering too many people. But I think that can be nice.

Clean hostel for its age. Great location as it was literally in town. Right by Harbour Street, a charming area with Victorian inspired buildings. Gave the vibe of being transported to another timeline.

This was my favourite backpacker hostel in South NZ. It was a home away from home!

Loved the relaxed atmosphere in this hostel, the decor and grand staircase. It felt very chilled and safe. Great kitchen and bathroom facilities and location were fantastic too! Rooms were basic but that was all we needed/paid for

Centrally placed hostel, full of history. Clean rooms, enough bathroom facilities and good kitchens. Able to store a bike safely.

Great location with shared kitchen lounge and bathrooms. Good value for backpacker style accommodation with private rooms and not too many guests onsite. My room was very spacious with nice views across the railway line to the ocean. Gorgeous sunsets.

This is the best backpacker I've ever stayed so far! The bunk bed has curtain, usb and type C socket for charging and built-in lamp. So nice and cozy living room with so many facilities including kids zone and massage chair. Kitchen is also nice with so many shared food.

Amazing hostel - doesn't feel like one at all feels more like shared accommodation or a B&B. The 6 bed mixed dorm was spacious and clean. Sturdy bunk bed with each having their own light and usb charging point. The toilets and showers were clean. Free street parking right outside the accommodation. Free breakfast stuff, alongside tea, coffee etc as well as fruit juices. The view from the kitchen/living areas were beautiful. The location is perfect for Oamaru. I stayed for 2 nights and had the mixed dorm to myself the first night!

I loved staying at Oamaru Backpackers. My room was very cozy and comfy, the kitchen and the living room were so nice and bright with everything you need to cook and to relax. Very nice view. So far one of the best hostel I've been to since I'm in NZ last year. Sadly I only stayed one night.
