If you need a place to just sleep while nothing else in your budget is available it will do.
As all other reviews are saying this place is a bit to get used to for western standards 😂
be prepared to walk into town for 40 min if you don't want to wait for the first shuttle at 10 am
be prepared for noise as the walls between sleeping rooms are super thin as well as the mattresses.
yes this place has an oddness to it. but I found it interesting to experience, the character it has of being a local community place where people come to rest, eat, bath, sleep and socialise has a bit of the real Japan.
the shuttle was great if you didn't feel like walking back 40 min after exploring Takayama.
Even though the staff doesn't speak English they are reliable if it comes to drop off and pick up with the regular shuttle van.
make sure you read the booking.com facility and guidelines as the shuttle times and where to wait for the shuttle are listed there.

We were accomodated in different place than was advertised, so I cannot review anything. Price was high, but it could be because of the autumn festival that was happening that day.
Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.
Very friendly, helpful and kind staff - they contacted the police for me when I left my wallet full of money at a market stall (and it wasn’t there when I returned to the stall). My wallet was never found in the end but I’m grateful for their efforts.
The hostel is a great location - ~10 min walk from train/bus station and main hub of Takayama. It is also kept very clean! Personal lockers in dorm rooms were also a bonus!
Great location ~10min walk to bus/train station and city center. Right next to 7/11. Very spacious dormitory, great kitchen with free coffee and great common room with extras.
Great location just near the train station and the bus terminal to various locations like Kamikochi, Shin Hotaka Ropeway just to name a few. Super clean rooms with charging points on the Sofa, nice balcony facing the train track (but we couldn't hear a thing with the glass doors closed. We got the 2 x queen size + 2 bunk beds combo for 3 persons. It will be great for families.
It's like a youth hostel of an higher grade. We'll facilitate kitchen. Shared Toilet is clean, spacious with basket available to put clothes. You don't need to bring a bag
This was such a fabulous hostel. Great location, 5 mins from the station. Such a nice chill area and kitchen inside. I had the most fabulous sleep in their super-comfy bed! Very well priced single room - such a luxury! First mattress in Japan that was soft enough for me as a side sleeper. Helpful, friendly staff. Lots of info provided. Can't fault it
The staff is so nice and the location on the hill is very cute. There is a direct bus going into the city just 2 minutes downhill. The bed was really cozy with a big blanket and curtains. The hostel is in an older style but all so clean and I instantly felt safe and cozy there.
One of the best hostels I've stayed at in Japan. Lovely traditional style building/rooms and it was clean with good facilities. Great location and staff gave good tips for food etc. Super sociable hostel - group of us chilled out drinking the (free) hostel sake in the tatami room!
Great location close to JR Takayama station and walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants.
K’s House has the friendliest staff who have a lot of knowledge of the area and are always happy to help. The communal areas (kitchen, dining and living areas) are great - a lot of newer hostels we went to didn’t have this! The rooms and bathrooms are basic but fine for the price (we had a private bunk bed room). Overall we liked staying here!
