Budget travelers know there's no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: Save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a little more.
What a lovely special hostel here. The house was so unique. We had booked 2 bedrooms for the 4 of us, there were another couple and an other family of 4. We shared the kitchen with all equipment that you may need and there were 2 bathrooms with shower. A place that allows people to chat, sit around the table, share experiences / adventures. Let's not forget the restaurant, the food, the service, the smiles - so good! The quiet surrounding, the view, it was simply perfect.
Easy check-in - you basically just find your room and there's a key in the door. That's it. Cheap by Icelandic standards. In the kitchen, we found everything we needed. Also, people are encouraged to leave there for others to eat or drink whatever they don't need - we were happy to take a bit of oil and left oats there for example. A hot tub on the shore is great to have, although I'd prefer it hotter.
Location, basically it was the only accommodation in that area for when we needed it. It is remote and quite. Also this review is only about the hostel part, the dedicated huts may be better
Lovely historic building with long history of operation as a hostel in a prime SE Iceland location. Very welcoming and friendly hosting family, and a fabulous kitchen with fresh fish on the menu. Highly recommended.
The hostel is a little far from the next town, but is very serene, located in the Berunes farm. You wake up to a beautiful and relaxing view of the mountain and a cove of water. The hostel is clean, the room is small but cozy, the beds are comfortable with clean white linens and comforter. The kitchen is also clean, organized and well equipped.
Very special to stay at HI Hostel, because it is in an old farmer’s house. Very good dinner and very friendly staff.
