We loved our apartment #2 with lake view and the artsy decoration around the property.
Housekeeping and maintenance are done by a sweet local family.
We were glad about the kitchen access, it wasn't clear from the property description if this was still included.
When the shower worked, it was really nice and hot.
There's a corner shop with a lovely employee just across the street who sold us better meds than the pricey pharmacy downtown.
Yes, this property is in a less developed part of San Marcos, but by no means unsafe. If you are "scared" of poor people, don't come to Guatemala.

We stayed in the camp site. The location and surroundings are beautiful. We asked for the inflatable mattress to be swapped for a material one and it was actually quite comfortable. It was quiet and lovely to wake up there.

Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.
Lovely, friendly and welcoming owners, delicious free breakfast, loved having my own single bed and not a bunk bed and met some incredible people. San Marcos is a special place, as is Casa AHAU.
Great location in town, Super friendly and lovely family that is running the hostel, nice little garden and two yoga terraces, big community kitchen and clean facilities. I really liked the tranquility of the place. I ended up staying way longer than planned :-)
Honestly it was one of the best hostels I have ever been to. Its a little bit away from the city center (about 10 min walk) and therefor is really tranquil and calm. Theres a rooftop from which you have great view. It was really clean thanks to Eric. He is an amazing guy. He is always giving his best to meet the needs of all the people, as well as cooking breakfast for everyone in the morning. If you need any advice on what to do or what to see in San Marcos or at the lake in general you can always ask him - you‘ll get the best advice.
The hostel is run by 2 lovely guys that are happy to help with anything. For breakfast you have two options to choose from and everyone comes together in the common area so it's easy to meet other travellers. The showers are hot and the toilets flushable. I also liked that the dorm didn't have bunk beds. The hostel is in a good spot to get to all the other places for yoga, soundbaths, etc.
This place is the bomb.com. I met the most incredible humans here, had an excellent breakfast included in my stay every morning, and felt like I was in a laid-back garden oasis. Erick is goofy and keeps the energy fun and light-hearted. The rooftop is lovely and there is always a yoga class available up there most mornings for a cheap price. This was my favorite hostel experience yet. Bathrooms and showers were always clean. Beds were comfortable. 10/10 would recommend staying here.
one of the best hostels I’ve ever been during my travels! thanks to Dani and Eric for creating that amazing, familiar and welcoming atmosphere in that beautiful quiet place.
Much love hope to see you again soon, Melissa
