Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.
We've stayed in a few youth hostels, so we knew what to expect. Kirkwall youth hostel was clean, warm and convenient. It had good kitchen facilities, and the communal spaces worked well. The bedroom was fine, with a generous en-suite bathroom.
Spacious, well equipped kitchen. Great location., Wi-Fi strong, Washing machine , dishwasher broken at time of visit . Garden enclosed so safe for dogs and children. Perfect location. Excellent for our visit . Local walk to beach was beautiful
The staff were very friendly and very understanding when the airline cancelled my flight and lost my luggage. The Youth Hostel is really close to town and supermarkets which make it a really convenient location :) Googlemaps a must for figuring our bus times - plus the lovely folks in the travel centre. Lovely place to visit, coming back and I'll be staying in the YH again when I do! :)
Convenient This is a youth hostel still many people the same age as me here, old generation.
Had washing machines and drying room. Ideal for backpackers and cyclists. Quiet and comfortable
Full kitchen facilities
Booked for a night after a meeting. It was the cheapest place available, and although advertised as a hostel the individual rooms are of a higher standard than expected. Comfortable bed, sitting area, fridge available and good shower. No complaints!
Quite possibly the best hostel we have stayed in and we are both volunteers for YHA and in the past SYHA!
