From the moment we arrived at Room2Board, we were warmly welcomed by the incredibly friendly staff who made us feel right at home. The owner was exceptionally helpful, offering great tips and responding quickly to any questions we had throughout our stay. The hostel itself is fantastic, boasting a stunning rooftop terrace that’s perfect for catching the breathtaking sunsets or relaxing in hammocks during the day, even when it’s rainy.
Our room was spotless and very comfortable, providing the perfect retreat after a day full of activities. The common areas are beautifully designed, offering plenty of spaces to relax, read, or simply unwind with fellow travelers. The food was consistently delicious, adding to the overall experience.
The surfing lessons were a highlight of our stay. The instructors were highly skilled and catered to all levels of experience, ensuring everyone had a great time while learning to ride the waves.
We can’t wait to return and extend our stay next time. Whether you’re a surfer or just looking to enjoy a relaxing time in Jaco, we highly recommend Room2Board Hostel and Surf School. This place truly has it all!

Budget travelers know there's no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: Save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a little more.
It's a great hostel with a pool by the beach, you have everything you need, we also had some salsa class, they have nice drinks at the bar, rooms are clean, they Include a washroom with shower, I was happy to choose this place, I met new people :)
The place is right at the beach so it makes it super easy to go in and out of the sea with showers close by and your belongings safe. Staff was nice although I had the feeling they were a bit overworked.
Pool area and bar overlooking the sea are really nice. Rooms have AC which is relatively rare in a hostel in CR.
Everyone at the hostel was incredible - the owner, Brian, as well as the friendly volunteers and staff. There were great food promos each day, generous happy hour times and prices, and the AC at night was an absolute lifesaver. I felt extremely safe at this hostel as both a young woman and a foreigner, and my friends and I were very sad to leave. A couple of us are even considering going back to work there!!
Buena Nota was the first hostel I've ever stayed in and it was incredible! Felt like I was living in the Florida Project. The value for money is amazing and the staff were so lovely. The room was clean and felt safe. It's such a welcoming and homely place to stay. The location is fantastic with plenty of places to eat nearby and right on the beach. The pool is clean and refreshing in the heat.
Apparently we got an upgrade on the room so I'd be worried about what the others looked like. The room was clean but very basic. The furniture was cheap, wardrobe were plastic etc and we had to change room as the bed was broken. If you are traveling on a budget I'd imagine this place is better than a hostel but I wish we had paid more and stayed else where as I was expecting better from what the other reviews had said.
The best hostel I have stayed in, in Costa Rica. Great pool, really good vibes and great for meeting people. The staff were great, it’s right on the beach. they have loads of surf boards to rent - beginner and expert. Just a great fun place to be. And comfy, quiet rooms
