If you are looking more for a cultural experience and living closer to the Kairouan community, Chama Maison Hotel is perhaps a better choice than a regular hotel. Chama is an extremely friendly, kind and knowledgeable host who is from the area. But her experience living in Europe also helps with most language issues. You are essentially sharing Chama's house with her, and she is quite accommodating. Chama provides breakfast, which I am sure she would adjust to fit specific tastes. The nicest thing is that you are living in a regular neighborhood amid the locals. I was sad that Chama's dog, Dana, passed away before my arrival, but I hope to return and meet Chama's new puppy one day. Be aware that Chama takes care of local cats, so you will find them crowded around her door at dinnertime. Also, take note that if you are tall, the room entrance and entry to the bathroom might give you a headache. 😉
