Ms Shakira is a very attentive receptionist, sharp as a tack, quick to help with any general enquiries, be it taxis or money exchange. Ms Salma is lovely, she cooked me one of the tastiest meals I ate during my 10 days in Zanzibar! Thankyou ladies! Also, for the takeaway breakfast. Its only 5 minutes to get to the airport, so it's very handy if you have an early flight. Super comfortable beds! Budget friendly too.

For the price this place was really great. It was a little hard to find but they reach out and give you contact details ahead of time. Its in a really central location but still quiet. Place was very clean and room was large. Had a shared bathroom which was cleaned often. Was only slightly more than a hostel but definitely a step up

We stayed at the Kwale residence for one night, and it was conveniently close to the airport, which made it easy to catch our early flight the next morning. The beds were comfortable, and having AC and a kitchen was a plus.
Overall, the Kwale residence was fine for a short stay if you're just passing through and need a place to sleep before your next flight.

Very good stay if you need to be close to the airport. Great host and cosy clean room. Nice restaurant right next to the guesthouse. It’s not in the center of stonetown but easy to get there with bus or taxi (15min approx).

It was wonderful being able to spend nights in an authentically traditional building with traditional rooms and furniture. It was an excellent way to explore the traditional architecture and decoration of old Zanzibar. The location is perfect. Just behind the famous praying temple and just 5 minutes to the water shores. The owner is very friendly and always eager to make your stay comfortable. The price is reasonable given the excellent location and the traditional environment. This place is a must!
Travellers on a budget looking to experience a place like a local will enjoy homestays. This simple accommodation is in a private home, where the host also lives. All facilities are shared and in most cases breakfast is included.
A lively, clean, cosy place right in the middle of a busy maze of tiny streets in the heart of Stone town Close to the harbour, ferry and boat services. Close to Mercury restaurant. Lovely hosts, Gertrude and her female staff. Very positive vibe and helpful tips. You can request simple snacks if needed.
Clean and presentable. Expensive accomodation
Renovations happening - lots of dust
Too many hawkers around the hotel
Busy with locals on the beach front
The Italian man @ the reception, what a gem!
Give the man a goddamn raise!
People like him increase customer satisfaction 10× which in turn generates good reviews and more customers.
The city introduction he gave me was imbeccable and invaluable.
He's reception in general made me feel at home and satisfied with the place.
Stone town house in itself is a great Hostel.
The staff is amazing. Food at the restaurant is good. Rooftop is nice. Location is right in the middle of Stone Town. This hotel allows you to be a part of the city without being contaminated by tourism. I recommend the hotel if you want to breath the local culture and encounter locals.
2/3 nights is enough.
Not recommended if you are looking for a European fancy beach with 5 stars service and no contact with local culture.
Very spacious room- Genius upgrade! Lovely bed and working air condition. Very close to all amenities.
Great hosts and very helpful staff. Amazing, fresh fruit and cooked breakfast, good coffee too!
One of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. Historic, beautiful building. Amazing location on the beach - with locals coming out in the evening and enjoying themselves. Comfortable bed, great food, wonderful staff and all owned and run by people from Zanzibar - unlike most of the other hotels on the island.
Hotel was chosen for a short trip before heading out to Tanzania. so location was important from the airport. The room was comfortable and clean. staff friendly and pool was good. lots of locals seem to use this hotel as a holiday destination too.
First of all Saleh was a great host!
The rooms are big and clean. And the bathroom although it isn’t private, it’s nice also.
It’s not easy to find the Apartments but if you call Saleh or ask the locals they will help you find it.
Balcony House is a great hostel in the mid of Stonetown, nicely furnished rooms, cool chill zones, balconies and terraces. We loved it! Very good price for what you get, intereseting and communicative hosts, friendly staff. You should not be too delicate concerning noise, as Kenyatta road is small but frequented and sound isolation of the rooms not too good. We did not mind given the overall charme of the place, felt at home and (partly) slept well ;))) Recommend to go for it!
