We felt very welcome in Yuji and Junko's home. On arrival, they invited us in and we all sat together talking and enjoying some tea and special treats.
As guests, you have the entire top floor of their recently renovated house. The beds were comfortable with one of the thickest, but lightest, duvets I have slept under. The lounge room has a low set comfortable lounge, TV, under mat heating and separate airconditioning. The bedroom also has its own airconditioning. The shower has good hot water.
Junko gave us some recommendations regarding nearby restaurants that made okonomiyaki. We had dinner there one night - delicious and ridiculously cheap. And later that evening when we returned, Yugi and Junko invited us to share some beer and wine with them, and we again enjoyed just sitting and chatting to them.
I have no hesitation in recommending a stay with Yugi and Junko, but note that It is probably best if you have your own transport.

Absolutely loved our stay here! The hosts Kazu and Mayomi were delightful and very kind - they helped us with our luggage from onomichi. The house is beautiful and just across from the beach. It is right on the shimanami kaido and great for cycling

A quirky old character building overlooking the harbour, a cosy room at the front of the hostel provided a great view of a gentle pace harbour life. The finishes inside the building are basic but functional. The hostel kitchen does not have much in the way of cooking implementations, plates, mugs etc.
However the Hostel also runs a community kitchen on the ground floor next to the Hostel. We had one of our best evenings in Japan here. The idea is that he aims to keep alive a tradition started after ww2 when there was extreme hardship and illness in the area. Instead of each home having a kitchen there were community kitchens. A large metal plate is heated up and food like Hiroshima Okonomiyaki was prepared. Our host gave us a cooking demonstration and then we cooked food for three local people who had popped in.
The small charge for the cooking lesson was very good value.
We rented bikes and cycled the Onomichi trail, a great experience. Did the 75km route and caught the bus back. Well worth the cheap bike rent fee, the bus fare back was almost as much!

Very comfortable beds and nice common area. Perfect location and very friendly host! We cycled the Shimanami Kaido and had a day exploring Onomichi, and the hostel was great for both. It's an interesting building, with narrow and steep stairs. Kitchen facilities, shared shower and bathroom all fine. A good hostel!
around 15-20 mins walk from the train station. nice vibe at downstair restaurant/bar where one can meet locals. the dorm room was clean. it's self check-in so didn't meet any staff.
Unique modern hostel with funky vibe. I loved the bunk room. Sliding doors instead of curtains. Sofa seating in the room plus fridge and great bathrooms. A social lounge and owner run restaurant bar at the front frequented by locals. Highly Recommend this stay.
