Matsumoto was a real highlight of our trip, and so was Guesthouse Azumaya. Shotaro is a wonderful host and it was a pleasure to chat with him and his partner. Shotaro has even traveled to New Zealand! This is an authentic Japanese experience and the guesthouse while old, is full of character and is clean and comfortable. Wonderfully located in a peaceful part of Matsumoto, with plenty of eateries and shops in walking distance, especially down Nawate street. An easy walk to the beautiful Matsumoto castle, or just to the train station.

I like that it was in a quiet area, but still close enough to the city.
There was a parking place right outside the room. The room was well decorated, very spacious, this is the only room for guests, so there are no noises. The host is very friendly.

Travelers on a budget looking to experience a place like a local will enjoy homestays. These simple accommodations are in a private home, where the host also lives. All facilities are shared and in most cases breakfast is included.
This is a campsite and the co-ordinator is really a great host! He managed to get everyone together and have a good chat and meal together. Making sure that everyone is having a great time.
