I travel a lot and spend a long time away from home, so cleanliness, comfort, and beauty around me are very important.
I found all of this at La Tigra Mountain House. The beds are wide, the mattresses are comfortable. The hostess of the house is very attentive and caring. And I would like to highlight the view separately. It's fantastic!!! The Platanar and Porvenir volcanoes are visible as if in the palm of your hand. Sunrises, clouds running at eye level, and hovering birds attract and compel you to stop and enjoy life. In the morning, I tried to exercise, but it smoothly transitioned into meditation... As they say, it's better to see once than hear a hundred times!! Come and see for yourself.

We had such a wonderful time and were lucky to stay at villa (#7) that was only recently built.
Berenice at the "reception" was such a great help by providing the best local dinner and activity information which we gladly made use off. Parking behind the fence and Internet were great too.
The premise is very green with chickens, a pair of Tucan, birds and colorful plants and flowers. We enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi and prepared breakfast at the outdoor kitchen where coffee and eggs from the chickens were for free.
By taxi/Uber it was just a couple minutes ride into La Fortuna but we can also recommend the restaurants opposite of Villa Tucan.
We can highly recommend Villa Tucan and Berenice as a host.
Travellers on a budget looking to experience a place like a local will enjoy homestays. This simple accommodation is in a private home, where the host also lives. All facilities are shared and in most cases breakfast is included.
I had the most wonderful time at Birds & Breakfast! Everything was just perfect for me. The wooden house and the room is very charming and everything was spotless clean. Marcela and Fabio are lovely hosts and go out of their way to make their guests comfortable. I went on a night walk and an early morning bird watching tour with Fabio. I can highly recommend this, if you come here. Fabio has excellent knowledge of all the birds and frogs and more and spots them where you only see green vegetation.
Lovely hostel central in La Fortuna. Enjoyed the stay. It was clean, I met wonderful people, the kitchen for everyone was nice and they had some activities for free.

We loved our stay here. Every apartment has a pretty little garden with seating and a hammock. We loved watching the hummingbirds feed on the flower nectar. The property also has a mini farm going on - expect chickens and geese to wander by and cockerels battling it out every morning to be the loudest alarm! The pool area is very nice and there’s a mini restaurant for breakfast (cash payment in dollars only). Eugenia is a great host, very dry sense of humour! A great little with a lovely, authentic charm. Highly recommend!
The lodge is in a quite location, almost in the middle of a forest with a small river. A nature surrounding the lodge is amazing, you can hear and see local animals, birds etc. The room was simple but clean, with a small kitchenette. Emanuel is a great host with very open and friendly kids coming over to play
Location was great because it was right in front of the volcano but I did not like the food much, it was alright. The place was busy with the locals on the weekend with the day pass but then it got quitter as Monday was approaching.
This is an amazing spot, you can hear the river and the sounds of the wildlife from your room. Down by the river there is a lot of wildlife to be found and some can be seen from the balcony.
Emmanuel is a great host and he taught us lots about the wildlife there.
