I really loved that they organized a Tuk tuk from the airport and I got a message form the driver the day before. The location was very close to the beach, where you can go sunbathing and swimming during the day and surfing or watch surfing in the evening, when the tide comes in. The lounge area on the top floor was a lovely way to spend the evening - reading, surrounded by nature.
The hostel organizes tours and homemade meal service that you order a bit in advance, so there is no need to go elsewhere if you do not want to. The staff was friendly and helpful, and let me practice my Spanish. :) The bar is a gathering spot in the evenings, to have a drink and chat with locals, which was really fun. On the evening when I did not go there it was not loud at all, to be in the room and go to sleep.
The water in the kitchen is potable.

I stayed at Mailers Hostal for 2 weeks. It’s in a great location. Perfectly positioned halfway between the beach (where you can surf) and the town (where the supermarkets and restaurants are). There is a kitchen that you can cook in, meaning you save money on eating out.
Mailer organises tours and is really knowledge about the area so you can ask him for all the local tips to enjoy el valle to its fullest!
The hostel is a lot better value than the hostels on the beach and he really makes you feel welcome and like his house is your house!

The place is amazing, you can reach it within a quarter of an hour by boat from the town of Bahia Solano and it is absolutely worth it to enjoy the tranquility of the bay, the sea, spot whales and listen to their song.
The transport from the airport to the hotel is very well organized, the owner himself took care of organizing everything and made sure that everything went well at every step.
The staff is really helpful, kind and available at any time.
The food is simple but very good and whenever it is available, you can enjoy the excellent fresh fish of the day.
The location is the strong point of Choibana. Far from the town of Bahia Solano, it is like having a private beach, far from the light pollution to see the stars at night and far from the noise of the many boats crossing the bay, it is literally possible to immerse your head underwater and hear the whales singing. With a bit of luck the whales enter the bay and it is possible to spot them from the window of the room (keep in mind that not all rooms overlook the sea).

Travellers on a budget looking to experience a place like a local will enjoy homestays. This simple accommodation is in a private home, where the host also lives. All facilities are shared and in most cases breakfast is included.
Laid back vibe hostel run by good people. Upstairs hammock/lounge area was a great alternative to the midday heat. The nearby beach is huge and great for swimming and surfing - ask about tides beforehand. Cool activity programme on offer. My room had a fan and decent mosquito net over the bed, however I found night-time to be cool enough to go without the fan. Bar downstairs can be noisy (it's a hangout for locals and staff mostly) but clears up by 11pm latest.
Nice place to stay with good value for money. Mailer and his family are great hosts. The location is great - just a few minutes walk to both the beach and the town. I went specifically looking for jungle walks and mailer is the best guide around for this it seems. Very knowledgeable about the various flora and fauna of the surrounding jungle and he is able to take groups or individuals on both day and nighttime tours
Great hostel in El valle with a nice bar and terrace to chill out at. I spent a week here and absolutely loved my stay here. The staff is super friendly and overall it's a lovely vibe to meet people and have a good time.
Also best wifi in the whole town if you need to work :)

I really loved my stay at the Humpback as I have stayed there for 3 weeks ! The atmosphere is super chill and it’s an awesome place to relax, especially in the hostel’s hamacs or directly on the beach as it’s the only hostel that’s actually located on the beach. It’s also a great place to meet other backpackers as well as the locals who always hang out there.
Overall I 100% recommend the Humpback !
Perfect stay Staff is incredible friendly especially santi. The place is amazing nearly no mosquitos hamocks all over the place, well equiped kitchen, a lot of tours are offerd. you can do so many activitys there, for example: the locals play every afternoon volleyball, surfing everyday for cheap rentals, and as i brought my own fishing rod it was possible to catch mackreals grouper pargo and much more just from the rocks on the right end of the beach. Was my best stay/time in colombia... thanks for that 🫶🏻
The views of the beach are spectacular from our room and social spaces. Everything was very comfortable, and an extremely relaxed atmosphere.
The breakfast was excellent with fresh fruits and juices cereals and eggs how you like, good coffee etc.
Monica was such a great host and so helpful about organising tours and recomendations of where to eat.
Such a great hostel. Daniela was so kind and welcoming, she really made an already excellent hostel all the better. Location couldn't be better, right on the beach & town is only a short walk away. Coffee is available at all times and the kitchen is big and fully equipped. Comfy beds with mosquito nets. The cutest, friendliest pets. Couldn't recommend this place more.
