We spent a delightful 6 days at La Bougainvillier Blanc in late January. We have poor French-language skills but we managed quite well, aided by a translation app on our phone (you need lots of data - 50 MB). We deliberately didn’t rent a car - that worked because we like walking. If that’s not your preference, you’ll have an easier time with a rental. Our favourite places were the larger local beach, Plage Caraibe, (great snorkelling at the north end) which was about 5 km away, and the Chute de Acomet, a beautiful little waterfall with lots of little pools downstream, which was 7.5 km away. That made for some long walks with some significant hills. Fortunately, there is also a local transport system available which made it easy to get to the other nearby beach (Plage de Petite Anse). Hitch-hiking is considered normal. Good local maps are free at the tourist office. Our gracious host Lucien has a wonderful little swimming pool at the guesthouse, so an end-of-day swim was part of our routine. The trickiest part for us was dinner – we tried to get back to La Bougainvillier Blanc by sunset to avoid walking in the dark, but most restaurants only opened later. We worked around this by eating a large late lunch (good choices at the beaches), eating at the one restaurant that opened at 17:00 (An Ba Tol La), or else making our own dinner in our well-equipped kitchen. If you have a car, there are at least 3 good restaurants close by. Pointe-Noire is not a tourist town so most shops close in the afternoon. Some useful shops that are open most of the day are along the main road (N2) – there are two pharmacies in the centre of town, and a large grocery ((Carrefour Express) and a good bakery/coffee shop on the southern half of town. We weren’t looking for a lot of tourist activities – just a quiet, peaceful time with low-key, interesting things to do each day. La Bougainvillier Blanc and Pointe-Noire were perfect for that.

The location was superb. It was completely quiet and provided panoramic views over the ocean from the terrace. 2. The cottage was sensitively built -compact, but with all we needed. 3. The hostess and owner were friendly and very helpful -it was a pleasure to meet them both. 4. We were on a walking holiday and access to the southern half of the island was good from here. 5. It was extremely hot during our stay. The lovely swimming pool and terrace were much appreciated. 6. Exploring the plants and seeing the birds in the compact but varied garden was a pleasure. 7. This was our best accommodation during our 4 weeks on the island.

This was our second trip to Cas’à Willy. It’s a special spot, simple, beautiful grounds, beautiful pool, lovely buildings, friendly guests, and Willy and Luciana took good care of us.

Surrounded by tropical gardens, Hôtel Village Pomme Cannelle 3 étoiles offers an outdoor pool, hot tub and stunning views of Mount Pelée and the Caribbean Sea. This place is truly amazing, surrounded by nature—though it might feel a bit far for some, we absolutely enjoyed our time here. The breakfast was a highlight: absolutely incredible! The lady who prepares it is a true star—so friendly, genuinely happy, and always eager to help. She took the time to explain all the different fruits, juices, cakes, and other homemade treats, which made it such a memorable experience. The property itself is spotless, tidy, and beautifully maintained. You feel completely safe and right at home from the moment you arrive. The area surrounding the property is equally wonderful, with lots of kind and welcoming locals who are always ready to help and get to know you. An unforgettable stay!

Located 1.8 km from Schoelcher Square, the beach-front Pierre & Vacances Premium Les Tamarins offers 2 outdoor swimming pools, beach volleyball court and beach soccer court. I liked the bar/pizza place by the pool. Very friendly and good food. Comfortable beds and maid service great.
