We spent a delightful 6 days at La Bougainvillier Blanc in late January. We have poor French-language skills but we managed quite well, aided by a translation app on our phone (you need lots of data - 50 MB). We deliberately didn’t rent a car - that worked because we like walking. If that’s not your preference, you’ll have an easier time with a rental. Our favourite places were the larger local beach, Plage Caraibe, (great snorkelling at the north end) which was about 5 km away, and the Chute de Acomet, a beautiful little waterfall with lots of little pools downstream, which was 7.5 km away. That made for some long walks with some significant hills. Fortunately, there is also a local transport system available which made it easy to get to the other nearby beach (Plage de Petite Anse). Hitch-hiking is considered normal. Good local maps are free at the tourist office. Our gracious host Lucien has a wonderful little swimming pool at the guesthouse, so an end-of-day swim was part of our routine. The trickiest part for us was dinner – we tried to get back to La Bougainvillier Blanc by sunset to avoid walking in the dark, but most restaurants only opened later. We worked around this by eating a large late lunch (good choices at the beaches), eating at the one restaurant that opened at 17:00 (An Ba Tol La), or else making our own dinner in our well-equipped kitchen. If you have a car, there are at least 3 good restaurants close by. Pointe-Noire is not a tourist town so most shops close in the afternoon. Some useful shops that are open most of the day are along the main road (N2) – there are two pharmacies in the centre of town, and a large grocery ((Carrefour Express) and a good bakery/coffee shop on the southern half of town. We weren’t looking for a lot of tourist activities – just a quiet, peaceful time with low-key, interesting things to do each day. La Bougainvillier Blanc and Pointe-Noire were perfect for that.

This resort is well appointed, comfortable, has a lovely pool and you can rent a car for a very reasonable price and no hassle. The hosts are nice and professional. At one point the freezer went on the fritz and within an hour it was replaced with a brand new one. Each unit has a private terrace, the bed was comfy and the water is hot. The kitchen has what you need to prepare meals, and there is a washer in the unit.

Le Domharry nabízí celoroční venkovní bazén a výhled na moře v obci Anse Bertrand Chapelle, pouhých 500 metrů od pláže. Le Gosier leží 29 km odtud. Na místě je soukromé neplacené parkoviště. The host takes great pride in ensuring that his guests are comfortable and enjoy their stay. Definitely recommend this location.

Esprit Caraibe se nachází v klidném tropickém lese v Saint-François, jen 2,4 km od pláže. K dispozici je bezplatné Wi-Fi. Ubytování ve tvaru stromových chat má posezení. Byl to opravdu jedinečný zážitek. Naprostý klid, pouze zvuky lesa. A přitom zde je vše, co potřebujete! Pokud hledáte luxus a noční život, tak toto není místo pro vás, ale jestli si chcete odpočinout od ruchu města a civilizace, tak neváhejte. Milovali jsme zde vše, hlavně venkovní kuchyň a koupelnu. Doufáme, že toto krásné místo zůstane navždy uchráněno od devastující výstavby. Děkujeme majiteli za vlídné přijetí a přejeme mu hodně štěstí.

Las Puertas del Paraíso se nachází pouhých 7 minut jízdy od pláže Playa Río San Juan. Ubytování nabízí zdarma Wi-Fi ve všech prostorách, venkovní bazén, snídaně formou bufetu a à la carte restaurace. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful, it was very relaxing. The hosts are very helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed conversing with them. The food was fresh and delicious including the dessert ;-)

Yepton Estate Cottages se nachází v rozlehlých tropických zahradách vedle ptačí rezervace se slanou lagunou. Nabízí ubytování s možností vlastního stravování kolem venkovního bazénu. The owners were extremely hospitable, helped us with our luggage, transportation and dinner recommendations. We had a great time!

MAVS COMBATE BEACH CLUB se nachází v destinaci Cabo Rojo a nabízí ubytování s bezplatným Wi-Fi a klimatizací a zahradu s celoročně otevřeným venkovním bazénem. Great area y businesses, the price was right.

It was completely quiet and provided panoramic views over the ocean from the terrace. 2. The cottage was sensitively built -compact, but with all we needed. 3. The hostess and owner were friendly and very helpful -it was a pleasure to meet them both. 4. We were on a walking holiday and access to the southern half of the island was good from here. 5. It was extremely hot during our stay. The lovely swimming pool and terrace were much appreciated. 6. Exploring the plants and seeing the birds in the compact but varied garden was a pleasure. 7. This was our best accommodation during our 4 weeks on the island.
