They are usually family-run, and your host will provide local recommendations and optional meals. Often cheaper than regular hotels, guest houses can also feature a cosy living room and a garden.
I recommend this hotel. Close to railway station. Not far from the river and city center. Pleasant personnel. I was not expecting breakfast due to the early departure but they gave me a package with nice croissant and some cookies.
Location! I loved how close it is to the Oleksandria park. It’s a bit far away from city center, but bus stop is very close to the property and price for taxi isn’t very high.
Incredibly hospital host, medically clean room, brilliant location in 150m from Oleksandria Park :)

Central location. Windows overlook the inner yards, so it is quiet. Clean. Disposable slippers for every guest. Tea bags and ground coffee in the kitchen. Great price/quality ratio.
