We spend two nights here in September 2024 and had a really lovely stay! The staff gave us a really warm welcome and we loved the venue and food. We went for the sunset boat safari with a local villager, which was really nice. He didn’t speak much English, but that didn’t bother us. He was very friendly and showed us lots of birds and monkeys and it was nice and calming to be on the river with the setting sun and later on in the dark with all the bats flying around. The full day private safari was well arranged by The Backwaters Lodge as well.

Lovely peaceful homestay in nature
I loved relaxing by the river and watching the birds and even better was swimming in the river which is perfectly safe. There is a wooden jetty with small steps to climb down into the river
Saw many kingfishers, eagles, monkeys. a giant squirrel, monitor lizard, and many small birds directly on the property.
Rishwan and his two staff boys are super helpful and friendly
Room was very clean and comfortable with a view directly on the river
Rice and curry for dinner top notch local cuisine

Great place and great host! Thanks Anton for hosting us :) only 3 km from Wilpattu park entrance, small but very nice sweeming pool, and a quite place with wonderful pond with birds on the backyard.
Nice quiet place with extra kind hosts. They also arranged a jeep safari and the driver-guide was both knowledgable and willing to try as Hard as possible to let us see the most of the fauna, including the leopard. And he made it!
Amazing accommodation, super friendly host and crew. Beautiful new rooms, new bathroom…, luxury looking. Amazing bed and pillows, by far the best stay. Beautiful garden with fresh fruits, tons of birds to watch and according to paw prints, the occasional elephant. Very good food
Green Sapphire is in a great location on the access road to Wilpattu. There are lots of little shops selling snacks and things along that road too. It is not isolated. It is easy to find, on a good, sealed road.
The place is kept immaculately clean.
Dylan (the main host) is very responsive and helpful and will sort out whatever you need. He also provided plenty of food as well as binoculars, a tripod and a lens for mobile phone cameras
Aircon was good and needed
Great location, very quiet and relaxed. Staff very helpful although their English was limited - Gihan the owner wasn’t there but contactable by phone - Google translate helped with communication. Delicious breakfast especially the pancakes.
Susil was a great host for us. He took time to talk with us and tell us about the surrounding area and some of the history of Sri Lanka. Made us beautifully cooked homemade meals with traditional ingredients. Very kind man that made our stay an extremely positive one. Hostel is in the most perfect location literally metres from the entrance of the national park.
Great location when visiting Wilpattu NP for safari. Owners where super friendly! Food, both breakfast and dinner, where home cooked and diverse. Bed was comfy, musquito net and ac in the room. The guesthouse is close to the Wilpattu entrance and easy to reach by road. Don't be surprised to see an elephant walking past the guesthouse. There is a lake near the place where you can walk and watch some wildlife as well.
Owner has his own jeep and can arrange safaris for a fair price.
