Mangrove House, hotel in Lamu

Featuring a terrace with sea views, a private beach area and a garden, Mangrove House can be found in Lamu, close to Manda Beach and 600 metres from Mnarani House.

A blissful 6 days here. It's a beautiful Robinson Crusoe island. Mary's wonderful team have looked after everything for us. We swim, we walk, then a super breakfast served by Nyevu, who is always so kind and arranged everything so calmly and with a smile. Harrison is truly an artist, making wonderful displays every day on our bed of flowers and petals. The food delicious, with our choice of fish or chicken etc cooked in Swahili style. John guards by night and day. We loved the animals - donkeys wandering in from the beach, goats, chickens. We felt really a part of the island's life for a small time. Hope to be back soon!

Samaki House, hotel in Lamu

Providing garden views, a garden and free WiFi, Samaki House provides accommodation well located in Lamu, within a short distance of 18th Century Swahili House Museum, Lamu Museum and Lamu Fort.

While the house itself is architecturally interesting, beautifully furnished, and features a breezy, albeit a bit dusty, roof terrace with a great view, our experience at Samaki House was disappointing due to the owner's poor handling of a booking mixup on their part. The manager on site was friendly, and the room we had booked and eventually stayed in for 2 out of 3 nights was bright and airy, but we were initially given a dark, moldy room with a bathroom encrusted in rust and with cockroaches scuttling about that we hadn’t booked.

Beytul Habaib, hotel in Lamu

Situated 200 metres from Gallery Baraka and 200 metres from Lamu Fort, Beytul Habaib features free WiFi and units fitted with a kitchen, balcony and seating area.

My recent two-nights stay at Beytul Habaib was an absolute pleasure, creating unforgettable memories. The Apartment Suite was incredibly spacious and offered a fantastic view that added to the charm of my stay. The staff were exceptionally helpful, ensuring all my needs were met with a smile. The security was top-notch, making me feel safe and comfortable throughout my visit. One of the highlights was the unique wheezing sounds that gave the place a distinctive character. I thoroughly enjoyed the walk to the town center, where the locals were extremely friendly and welcoming. The management also arranged a town tour for me, rich in culture, as well as a sea tour, both of which were truly memorable experiences. I highly recommend Beytul Habaib to anyone visiting Lamu. It’s the perfect blend of comfort, culture, and hospitality.

We had a great stay here. Despite the power being out in all of Lamu, we made it work and the place was clean and comfortable. Jivanjee was a great host and greated us at the beginning and end of our stay as well as connected us to local guides.

Mohammed is a very great host. He welcomed me so nicely and offered a guide to show me around Lamu. We also made a food arrangement and him and his family cooked for me for the whole of my stay there which was affordable as food can be quite tricky when new. You will feel at home. I loved the upstairs rooms because of the ventilation, so would highly recommend those. It's also situated 7 minutes away from the main street so it will give you a good tour of old town when figuring out old town. Overall a great experience for budget travellers

A remarkable property, full of history and character, and stylishly decorated. Our quiet room and private terrace at the back of the hotel overlooked charming rooftops, with dhows on the sea in the distance. The multiple pools, each set in its own secluded courtyard, are perfect for relaxing after a day exploring the island or the historic Old Town, and the waterside restaurant is totally delightful. Best of all, the team are so warm, welcoming and genuine - they really embody the spirit of Lamu and Kenya.
