Perfect escape from the summer heat in Japan. Hiking in the mountains, swimming in the lake, relaxing in the hot bath after a long day, meeting interesting people in the cozy common cafe-like room, hopping on a bike they offer to rent - all great. In winter apparently there's also a ski resort nearby. Would love to come back.
Surrounded by greenery, the lovely Holiday Afternoon offers rooms with free Wi-Fi, a 10-minute drive from Biwako Valley Ski Resort and a 10-minute walk from Omimaiko’s beach.

The son and mother running the guesthouse were wonderful. It's a beautiful location, and because it is fairly far from the station, the son picked us up in his van at the station. We did have to call him to get us (which we knew ahead of time), so it's important to have the capability to do so or otherwise arrange it with the guesthouse host. We thoroughly enjoyed the onsen at the hotel with included yukatas and our very spacious room (had a heater/AC as well!). The sheets and yukatas and towels were impeccably clean and pressed. The son and mother had a lovely cafe with free beverages downstairs, and they also had a wonderful breakfast we paid for in the morning. I feel this guesthouse is truly a hidden gem and highly recommend it to anyone considering it. Easily one of the best places I have stayed at in Japan. My husband and I were so charmed during the whole experience.

The place does not have anything inside the room. The shared kitchen are very messy and no electric devices like microwave are working....

The owner was extremely friendly and adaptable to my situation, she was very kind and even let me keep my bags at the property ling after checkout time so that I could explore more of kyoto.

Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travellers who prefer unfussy accommodation with a personal touch. They are usually family-run, and your host will provide local recommendations and optional meals. Often cheaper than regular hotels, guest houses can also feature a cosy living room and a garden.
An absolutely beautiful property and location. It was so lovely to get out of the touristy areas of Japan. Our hosts were extremely welcoming and gave us great recommendations for the area. We would highly recommend staying here!
Good experience in an old Japanese house. Nice little garden, listening to the rain with a cup of coffee. The surrounding is very quiet. We get to cook dinner with meat and vegetables bought in a supermarket, something we always want to do in Japan. And it was just great as it was raining the whole day and we cannot do any sightseeing. So we just bought all the meat and vegetables and returned to the house early.
One of the best stays we've been in Japan. A bit pricey, but location is great and house is beautifully renovated. everything you need. communication with host was super easy.
Great location, with a bus stop right in front of the house (cross the road), and a convenient shop 2 mins walk away. Very clean house with quiet neighbourhoods, beautiful area to walk around.
We loved the location right next to the railway station. This made things easy for travelling to and from Osaka and was convenient to use as a direction for taxi drivers. I loved the view from my room of the trains passing by. Not overly noisy. There was a great little yakitori restaurant just over the road. Cheap and delicious.
This is a lovely way to spend a few days in this charming and original city , I loved the Japanese set up and the cleanliness,
Mon , the host, was very helpful and responsive ,
The accomodation is a Japanese style house located in a cute neighborhood. Super clean and well equipped. You can use bicycles for free during your stay and explore the area. The host, Hiroshi, is a true gentleman. He came to pick us up at the train station, gave us a lot of tips and was really friendly and kind to us. If you come to Biwa lake, this guesthouse is the place to be.
