Minshuku Iwana no Sato, hotel in Kumano

Minshuku Iwana no Sato enjoys a location in Owase, 31 miles from Kumano Hayatama Taisha and 31 miles from Shingu Castle Ruins Park.

This place is a hidden gem. We felt so lucky to have stumbled on it. I don’t remember the other reviews talking about the exceptional food. We were served such a feast at dinner, including sukiyaki and a delicious grilled fish. When I asked what type of fish we were eating, the owner pointed out the window. When I looked at where he was pointing, I realized we were eating fresh fish from a pond just outside the window. Please note that the owner is also a dog breeder so there are many dogs on the property. The dogs are not roaming free so you won’t see them, but you will hear barking. The inn is simple, but very comfortable. The owners are very kind

Great location. The restaurant, ReCha, round the corner was fabulous. No English menu. Just use the photos on Google maps to order. The laundromat next ReCha was super efficient - 50 minutes to wash and dry for a less than 7 kg load. The room is comfortable, clean. Have a drink at the bar downstair and hear some stories 😉

Communication with the host was immediate and smooth, he speaks a bit of English too which is nice. The studio was well furnished and the host offered me some fresh beers and sake, a real treat! The tatami floor and the futon were nice, maybe not the most comfortable I've slept on, but overall okay.

The family owning and operating the guest house are so helpful and kind. The location is right in front of the sea, across from the Oniga-jo rocks and the Matsumoto-toge Pass. There are bicycles for rent, and the homemade breakfast is splendid. Very recommended.

The family who ran the guest house was absolutely wonderful: very kind, warm and courteous. Great location and a cosy room with an extra bonus of a sitting area , i.e., like a " bedsit"/mini apartment.

This was one of our favorite stays! The balcony overlooking the bay had a nice view of the water, very quiet and peaceful little town surrounded by mountains and water. The guest house was beautiful and thoughtfully designed and the futons were comfortable to sleep on. We were right across the street from the water and we had a lovely walk on the beach. The host was very friendly and welcoming, he gave us some clementines he had grown and he also gave us a great recommendation for dinner.
