A very quiet and charming hotel, the rooms were very comfortable and warm. All the facilities are super clean and the owner was very welcoming and helpful about things to do and see in Kumamoto despite my inability to speak Japanese ! I definitely recommend, especially if you're a solo female traveler.

Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travellers who prefer unfussy accommodation with a personal touch. They are usually family-run, and your host will provide local recommendations and optional meals. Often cheaper than regular hotels, guest houses can also feature a cosy living room and a garden.
Great hostel in a central location. I stayed in the dorm and in a private room. I loved it, it is very clean and the tenant is super nice. Very cosy and beautifully decorated. Would definitely recommend to stay here.
Very spacious house with well equipped kitchen in a quiet setting. Perfect place to stay for a couple of nights if you want to explore the Aso region.
The host was very welcoming, friendly, and helpful.
Great location; quiet environment, close by to the city center and a big supermarket right around the corner.
The apartment has all the facilities you need for a longer stay.
Host is a great communicator and even offers intermediate cleaning during long stays.
Basic, no-frills hostel, clean & quiet | close to Kumamoto station and Kumamoto Castle | basic kitchen, coffee/tea provided | warm shower, towel provided | bunks have privacy curtain | small lockers for valuable items | good WiFi | payment is yen only upon check-in |
Lovely stay in Kumamoto! Near a tram stop, easily walkable into the city center and to the train station. Room was small but fit all my luggage without issue. Hostel generally was clean and quiet, and the common room was great to sit in for a while in the evenings. The wifi connection was strong throughout the building.
The hosts were exceptionally kind. I mentioned I planned on hiking near Mt Aso and they prepared a lunch for me two days in a row. They upgraded my room as I was the only person staying there, drove me to the store and the station when I didn't have a car, and did everything to make me feel welcome. The location was incredible and quiet, with stunning views of Kumamoto and a beautiful guesthouse. I can't thank them enough for their kindness!
