Charming location. Beautiful traditional Japanese house. We brought pot noodles as worried there would be nowhere to eat but didn't need to worry as helpful host gave us directions to an izikaya a couple of kilometres away. Good if you have a car but probably not ideal to walk at night as not much pavement or lighting. Wish we had a bit more time to enjoy setting.

This is hands down one of the best places I have ever stayed.
The hosts are incredibly welcoming, and very enthusiastic about the home they’ve been restoring. we were greeted with a tour of the buildings and some history of the home.
The rooms are absolutely stunning, very homely and comfortable. All but one rooms are futon beds on tatami mats. I had a great night sleep.
The rooms at the back also have amazing views of Mt Aso.
The hosts are clearly audiophiles because there is excellent speaker systems in every room and they’re happy to share them with you and allow you to use them.
There is a karaoke system that was also available for use (which we did) and that was incredible fun.
We also opted for the bbq option which was incredible. Some of the best food I’ve had since arriving in Japan.
We tried to extend our stay but unfortunately they had other guests coming the next night. But I will definitely be coming back. What an incredible place

perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature. It’s conveniently located near Mount Aso. The hosts are incredibly friendly and welcoming.
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travellers who prefer unfussy accommodation with a personal touch. They are usually family-run, and your host will provide local recommendations and optional meals. Often cheaper than regular hotels, guest houses can also feature a cosy living room and a garden.
The place was super great, it’s a shame we only stayed for a night. The fireplace really helped in keeping the room warm all night long. The staff was very helpful and accommodating (thanks for the eggs! ☺️). Recommended for those who’s looking for a peaceful, quiet and warm place to stay.
Unexpected guesthouse in the woods. The owner is really nice, and opens a bar at night where you can have great cocktails. The cottage has a wood stove, with lots of wood that you're free to use, creating a nice fireplace and heat.
Guesthouse El Campo was a great stay on our roadtrip. We had the place to ourselves which was very nice, but even with others it would have been a great experience. The host was so lovely - his cooking was great and his cocktails even better! Would love to come back again in the future, thanks so much for our short stay :)
The guesthouse is exactly same as the photo. The timber smell is so nice. It is very clean and tidy. We all sleep well and it was a pleasant stay. Thank you, Owner😊
The cottages are quite basic, but nice old Japanese style and the view from the terrace is amazing. The host also arranged me a brand new electric mountain bike which worked very well for me to see the area around, such as Aso volcano and Takachiho gorge. The WiFi worked like a charm. Definitely recommend!
Host was very friendly! Wonderful location, with a beautiful waterfall nearby
