Evangelina, the proprietor, is a darling older woman who speaks little or no English and still wears traditional black clothes. The rooms are above her own house, which adds a specialness to the experience. The balcony outside our room looked out over mountainous terrain, where you can hear the bells of sheep clanking, and offered perhaps the best sunset of our entire trip.

I recommend Pension Aretoussa very highly. It is a wonderful place to stay in Pitsidia. Kirsten has created an atmosphere of warmth and relaxation. The rooms, common areas and breakfasts invite and extend a feeling of welcome and comfort. Then there is Kirsten herself - a super-helpful and thoughtful person. She went above and beyond for us with both local knowledge and important assistance. When I return to Pitsidia, I will stay at Pension Aretoussa.

Cannot say enough about Jodi’s commitments to her guests. Her attention to details re: any Qs her guests have, her suggestions re local areas, her wonderful personality, all made our first visit to Crete outstanding. . We selected Jodi’s pension based on others reviews, but only after staying here would we have changed our Crete travel plans and stayed exclusively at Jodi’s pension for our total southern Crete stay. Room was exceptionally clean, access to the breakfast room was a plus, and kudos to her fellow pensioners, many whom have been repeats for years. Staying with Jodi makes it very easy to understand why she has so many repeat clients. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to return to Crete. If so blessed, it will be at Jodi’s in Pitsidia.

The apartment is very comfortable and very well planned and laid out. All the facilities are there and well maintained. It is spotlessly clean and Olympia herself attends to the cleaning. In doing so, she insists on everything being perfect. She also supplies lovely little surprises too and they were a real treat. The balcony is a lovely bonus and looks out on this very authentic village. For us the real treasure were the hosts, Mike and Olympia, who gave us such a warm welcome and were always on hand to help in any way. They are genuinely lovely warm-hearted people and during our 10 days there we became genuine friends. We are really looking forward to returning to Olympias Studio Pitsidia and meeting Mike and Olympia again soon.
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travelers who prefer laid-back accommodations with a personal touch. Usually family run, these hosts will provide local recommendations and even optional meals. Guest houses sometimes feature a cozy living room or a garden – and are still cheaper than most regular hotels.
The property is located at a great location in Zaros. The room was alright, with comfortable beds and nice decoration. The sheets were nice smelling and the towels were fluffy. The room had great view (greenery) and was very quiet.
The apartment is located in Kato Zaros, which is a smaller part of the main village (Zaros) in the southwest of the area. Quiet location with great views towards the mountains in the west and north of the area. Very spacious with two bedrooms and a large kitchen/living area and a nice balcony facing west. Everything needed was present. Contact with the host was via messages only (key in a locker box), but Christos is very helpful and answers on requests quickly.
Location was great. In the center of the village, but very quiet. Cozy, well lit, old fashioned Cretan home. Except Sunday morning, when the church bells rang which we were warned about. This was actually nice, and we saw the community gathering there. Our hosts and even our next door neighbor brought us food and special treats. Our hosts and family members were very generous and friendly. There were a few nice restaurants nearby. Also some fun hikes.
The place is extremely charming, and we had a great stay. The hosts are friendly and really helpful, you will feel at home right away!
Definitely recommended
A little gem of a place. Great location - very quiet, tavernas close by with great food. Very close to the lake which was beautiful. Staff were lovely. Room was exceptional quality. Exceptional value.
