Portal del Sol is a hidden jewel! It is run by the most adorable couple, Carlos and Maricela, who were very helpful, attentive to the needs of their guests, and kind. Portal del Sol is tucked away in a lush garden setting and is located adjacent to the Sapzurro trailhead. It is quiet and peaceful, and an easy 10 minute walk to the center of Capurgana and to the beach. When I first arrived, Carlos gave me a tour of Capurgana, pointing out places to eat, swim, shop and how to find my way back to Portal del Sol. Hint! Look for the blue wall. My room was clean and simple with everything a person needs to be comfortable - bed, fan, shower and toilet. Now let’s talk about the breakfasts. THE BREAKFASTS!!! They were incredible, with something different and unique every day, including fresh juice from one of Carlos and Maricela’s many fruit trees. Breakfast often included a traditional Colombian dish, too. So good and filling, you won’t need to eat again until dinnertime. And you get to enjoy your breakfast in their lovely garden - the perfect way to start your day! Portal del Sol is a small establishment, with just 3 (or maybe 4 ) cabins. Everything was well-cared for, tidy and super safe. I stayed at Portal del Sol six nights and could have easily stayed much longer because it was so comfortable and because of the hospitality of Carlos and Maricela.

If you’re looking at reviews like crazy on where to stay in Carpugana- I got you. We stayed at 3 different places over our week here and John’s place here is the absolute best by a mile. The challenge with Staying anywhere in the center is how much these guys love to blast their music and party - especially on the weekends- so you can’t really find a spot that will guaranteed be quiet. Second are the power blackouts they get- while we were there at 5 AM every day the power went out. Good places outside of the centro will usually have a solar backup to power something like a fan if the power goes out. John not only has a phenomenal fan in the rooms which will
Run on solar, he has air conditioning that you can run any time the main power is on (which for us was any time except 5 am- where the fan could then be used instead). Private room with air con, awesome fan backup, QUIET, and really great breakfasts and dinners cooked by a family across the street AND an unreal pool. I’m telling you- this is your spot.
Ecocabaña Rosa María is a recently renovated guest house in Zapzurro near Playas Sapzurro. Featuring a private entrance, the guest house allows guests their privacy.
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travelers who prefer laid-back accommodations with a personal touch. Usually family run, these hosts will provide local recommendations and even optional meals. Guest houses sometimes feature a cozy living room or a garden – and are still cheaper than most regular hotels.
Maricela and her husband are the perfect hosts. They gave us a very hartly welcome and helped us in every way possible (planning activities, recommendations, charging phones). The hostal has solar panels and a battery so we could as well enjoy the ventilator during the night.
The hostal is at the edge of the town and is quiet. We had a very nice stay here.
On the edge of Capurgana town this place is accessible by foot but far enough away from the hubbub to be quiet and restful. It's in the middle of nowhere but close to everything. The place seemed to be run by two delightful Colombian ladies who were cheerful, friendly and charming.
Great location, right next to the sea. Super good Pizza.
Really nice owner who helped us with planning all our trips!
We really felt at home with the host, Mar, who is a really welcoming person.
We got a different freshly prepared and tasty breakfast variation every day!!
Just 2 minutes walk to the beach and one minute to the pier, 5 minutes from the airport.
Everything … Morgan and her husband run the property, she is super helpful, even before I arrived I had to change my booking due illness, she did this without any issues
Great location, a little way from the port which is great as it’s quiet, the room and bathroom were cleaned everyday
Plenty of hammocks and nice seating areas outside to relax
Great breakfast
A lovely family run property
Amazing guesthouse grounds: green, relaxing, and plenty of places to relax
Best included breakfast of any of our stays in Colombia
Private room was spacious, comfortable, and the bathroom was also really good
The owners are super friendly, can speak English, French, and Spanish, so communication was really easy
The laundry was also really good and cheap, which was useful because we had arrived from a San Blas tour
We loved our stay so much that we extended our stay!
such a lovely stay. Friendly and welcoming hosts, comfortable room, tasty breakfast, and a really nice place to relax. It is quiet at night which can’t be said for places closer to town. Still only a few minutes walk from town though so everything is easily accessible
