Very nice country house and the sights from the hilltop (especially during sunset) were amazing and we met some curious horses and a very vocal cat and in the morning a small rabbit as well.

The tiny village of Fonte Vetriana is high up near the top of the mountain, about 15 minutes drive from Sarteano. People live there, but it it also has holiday accommodation (il Borgo del Lupo) and a restaurant , both run by Alessandra and Geordana., who were very tolerant of my stumbling Italian. It feels like a real community, with village residents helping out with the running of the restaurant and tending the animals and gardens.
Fonte Vetriana is remote, and can only be reached via 1km of rough track, which might not suit everyone, but I can assure you it is well worth the trip. In fact the restaurant (Lupo dei Lupis) is rarely empty, because it has deservedly gained a very high reputation in the local area. We had intended to eat there only twice during our week-long stay, but we quickly realised that it is the best on offer in quite a wide area, offering authentic Tuscan dishes with a lot of produce supplied on the premises, including home-made pasta. It also has the most economical menu we saw during our holiday. The all-you-can-eat pizza night on Fridays is a great experience, with pizzas baked in an ancient stone oven and served up without having to choose toppings.
The accommodation was simple, but comfortable and spotlessly clean. Our two-bedroomed apartment with beamed ceilings was charming, with incredible views across hills and mountain. Outside, there is so much history to discover in this medieval hamlet. The resident animals are worth mentioning as well. Chickens, a dignified goose who was close friends with the wild pig (boar) who lived in her own sty, horses, and, to our delight as dog-lovers, a group of friendly and calm dogs enjoying their free-range lifestyle and playing together.
There is a good swimming pool with sun-loungers and more beautiful views.
We were sad to leave, and would love to return one day.

For travellers in search of an experience, nothing says authentic country-living like a stay at a private, working farm. Hosts may offer interactive kid-friendly activities or, for couples, a cosy haven in an original/converted farmhouse. Breakfast is often included — you may be collecting the eggs yourself!
Our 2-week stay at the farm was most relaxing. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the house was perfect. The attention to detail did not go unnoticed. Our hosts were most attentive and welcoming.
The views are really stunning from the location and we were less than 150 meters away from the sacred thermal springs. This was really a highlight. The village of San Casciano die Bagni was also beautiful and the people there were very friendly and genuine.
