Brand new wooden cabins squeezed in a tight valley in the middle of the woods, next to a little stream of water. The lodges owner lives in a cabin next door, warm welcome and always willing to help. The cabin was squeaky clean, had everything I could desire and even more (a piano!). The private onsen is a few steps away from the cabin, if you want something more social there's plenty of public onsens around (one down the road has a view on the river). Quiet, fresh air, plenty of hikes a short drive away. I stayed in the middle of winter, heating and thermal insulations were on point.

Aso

KK Wings is 46 km from the country house, while Kuroishi Station is 49 km from the property. Kumamoto Airport is 41 km away.
We wanted to check out Kusasenrigahama, hike the Kuju Mountains and then go to Kurokawa Onsen Town, and this was the perfect spot for the first leg of our trip because it is so convenient to the Makinoto Pass Trailhead. The room itself is spacious and peaceful, with large windows overlooking green rolling hills. Beds are so comfy, including the duvet and cover. There was a long desk along the windows, great if you need to do some work or writing. The staff is great, and the western style of the restaurant and lobby is fun.

The kitchen has a dishwasher, an oven and a microwave and there is a private bathroom with slippers and a hair dryer. This country house is allergy-free and non-smoking.
Barbecue facilities are at guests' disposal at the country house, and guests can also relax in the garden or go on a picnic in the picnic area.

An quiet spacious country house on the forest edge with lovely views of Mt Aso. Driving & check in instructions were clear and easy (indeed Google Maps cannot be followed). Appreciated the bag of rice from the hosts as well as various information such as the nearby hike. There are only two Western single beds, more travelers will have to enjoy the futon instead.
The welcome tea and snack was refreshing. The breakfast was quite alright, no frill and nothing fancy. The property is a 2 storey house at the corner, it was quiet and peaceful. The luxurious and modern bubble bathtub is very enjoyable. It is a short walk from Aso Temple and there are small eateries within 5 mins walk. Ample parking space.
The hotel is in the golf resort, located near the west Aso mountain. It is about 10 min driving distance from the downtown train station and 30 min from the Aso summit. Great location if you want to seek a quiet and peaceful experience in winter. Bath hall is at the separate building, the hot spring is definitely a must-visit. Breakfast and dinner buffet are nice. A little pricy but worthwhile.
Private onsen in room with free parking. Away from the main Kurokawa onsen area so was quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the beautiful surrounding with autumn foliage.
This Ryokan is great with two amazing outdoor and cave hot bath. Very quiet, peaceful. Our room is very spacious with a private hot bath and little garden. I liked everything of this ryokan except only complain is the toilet has a smell. But, good thing is toilet is far desperate with the other rooms, no big issue with the smell. Only when you are using the toilet. ^^; Our family had good time relax here!
Near to the Station, Host explained everything about the area and hiking/ sightseeingspots to us through well prepared pictures/maps etc. spacious, balcony, quiet
This guesthouse is amazing! The room is very big and comfortable. It is quiet. I could hear frogs at night. Everything is clean, you can use the laundry machine for free. There is rice and noodles in the common area for a small fee and free coffee and tea. On top of that, the owner gives plenty of information about hiking Aso volcano. Highly recommended!
Right above JR station with dedicated car park, and yet the accommodation is new, quiet and luxurious. Very friendly staff. The room is also very nice and spacious.
The location was excellent as it was only 10 minutes walk from Kumamoto Station. The apartment was super clean with comfortable bed. My wife and I loved an extra room above the bedroom where we could do stretch or simply relax. The bathroom has a heater function with a cloth hanging pole, so the clothes will dry out perfectly overnight. Surprisingly, it was very peaceful and quiet at night despite being very close to the main station in Kumamoto. There are plenty of good places to eat inside Kumamoto Station. It was a wonderful stay!!
- The owner is super friendly and supportive. Travelling in the countryside of Japan is not always easy for international travellers but he makes you relax during your stay! - Lovely hospitality. You can enjoy bonfire every night. - Clean facility, nice demarcation of quiet sleeping area and outdoor living space.
