Absolutely incredible host! I made a couple of missteps during my adventure and he went above and beyond to make things easier. There is also a fabulous dog on the property that will show you all the love! ✌️❤️🇨🇦🐕
Casa de Casal is NOT by the French Camino. Situated in Lestedo, just10 km from the city of Santiago de Compostela, this 18th-century country house is surrounded by gardens with waterfalls.

Patricia was the perfect host. The food was excellent, my wife required a gluten free/lactose free breakfast and wasn't disappointed. Very good communication before hand as to whether we required the evening meal on arrival. Easy drive into Santiago De Compestella and the surrounding areas.

Casa Maia was located about one kilometre north of Padron in the small village of Iria Flavia, an advantage for our next and last day on the Portuguese Camino. As I hadn't received any check-in details prior to arrival I had to telephone the owner, who only spoke Spanish, which made it difficult but all got sorted quickly. We were assigned the room 'Maia' at the back of the house with doors opening out onto the covered terrace and views of the enclosed garden with guest laundry facilities for a small fee. Our ensuited room was spacious, nice fresh decor, clean, neat and tidy, with plenty of room for luggage. We enjoyed the company of other guests in the house and the use of the guest kitchen and garden. The bed was comfortable with only one long pillow to share, no extra pillows. A TV was available with only Spanish speaking channels, WIFI was good. Even though it was cool outside, the room became too warm overnight with the doors closed to avoid the chance of any mosquitos, a portable fan was available in the room. In the morning breakfast provisions had been supplied overnight in the communal kitchen: sliced bread, toaster, small portions of cake, tea/coffee/jam/butter (+ large refrigerator for guests use). We purchased some groceries before leaving Padron the day before for our evening meal and yoghurt for breakfast. Top tip: have lunch in Padron before arriving at Casa Maia and bring a few groceries/wine as the nearest restaurant is less than 1km away. A delightful stay at Casa Maia.
The top choice for people wanting to get away from noise and fast-paced city life. Country houses are private homes based in the peaceful countryside, with communal facilities and meals available. Activities to unwind can be included too, such as trekking, birdwatching and cycling.
Apart from the surroundong countryside which was exceptional, our hostess bent over backwards to ensure that our visit was an enjoyable one. I would add that her command of English was excellent. When not out and about exploring, we spent a great deal of time chilling out in the beautifully kept garden. Highly recommended.
